Engadget HD Podcast 071 - 02.8.2008
Better late than never, as this week's show is a bit behind, but the news doesn't stop and neither does our discussion of downloads vs physical media. Keeping the format war news up front, no one seems to be surprised that Circuit City mistakenly marked HD DVD players as clearance items and Onkyo's long over-due rebadge, may not come at all. We caught the Super Bowl, but didn't catch HD DVD's commercial, but it's not like we haven't seen that commercial before -- but what is new is the talk of a Sony/Fox conspiracy to deprive Americans of their HD DVD. We did enjoy the Super Bowl though, it's not every day you get to witness the greatest choke in NFL history, and in HD. Unfortunately not everyone got to see the game, thanks to some technical difficulties. Last up, Lost is back, so Ben tries to get everyone to join in, but it's not like you have much of a choice thanks to the limited selection courtesy of the WGA strike. And finally TiVo is killing the Series3, but we want to know what's going to fill the void left of those wanting more than the TiVo HD can provide.Get the podcast

Nope. Not taking the "HD DVD fanboy" bait. :P Nice try, though.

Lets see, an Asian guy whipping something out next week, that can't be too big....
After the format war ends, you may have lots to talk about, but how many people will be listening/reading? Lets start getting some reviews. "News" about cities I don't living in getting HD channels that I don't get isn't that exciting.
Toshiba should have paid, or helped pay, for HD DVD drives in the 360 elites.
If you're looking for a sound system, you could check out onkyo's HT-SP904 system in a box. Its basically the same price (with free shipping from amazon) as the 605 and the SKS-HT750B speakers that you get in the package, but you also get a dvd player. I haven't gotten one yet, but I've been looking at it. $783 on amazon.

Now that I think back on it, I don't want you to do anything self-depreciating, Steve. However if you're multi-lingual you could show off.
Ben-- I stumbled across the Nyko Blu Wave remote, which could interest some readers. Its a third-party ps3 remote, but the kicker is that it has a little usb IR plug. Turns out you can use that with a universal remote!
So I checked amazon... 14 bucks, toss the remote, keep the ir usb unit. User comments confirm that the harmonies work... can't vouch for other remotes, but i'd imagine they would. You could have it "learn" the commands of the included remote.
Drawback-- (not Drawbaugh) the little plug requires 2 AAA batteries. Beats using the sixaxis!

Thinking about real Indians, but shouldnt you call American Indians, American Indians. Or even Red Indians?
Seems a bit unfair to forget the people of India
Spiza @ Feb 9th 2008 3:23PM
Native Americans is the PC way to go.
Matt Novak @ Feb 10th 2008 10:44PM
Gents: Thanks for the laugh. Glad you enjoy history lesson regarding the native people and their crazy pronouncations of places.
Thanks the podcasts.
