Verizon running low on FiOS TV HD boxes?
Yeah, we've seen shortages caused by unexpected upticks in demand before, and unfortunately, it's new FiOS TV customers that'll be feeling the pain this 'go round. Shortly after hooking up its one millionth customer, the carrier is now being forced to tell consumers that they won't be able to get a Motorola HD receiver or HD DVR right away. According to a number of user reports, company reps have been informing folks that the wait could be as long as a month, but a Motorola spokeswoman has reportedly said that it's working closely with the company in order to relieve the shortage. We know FiOS TV has been spreading its wings of late, so we're curious to know: have you been affected by said shortage, or did you get in just under the wire?

I've had FiOS for almost a year, but Verizon hasn't completed negotiations with my borough yet to bring FiOS TV. Hopefully, this won't delay it further. I'm so-o-o-o ready to get rid of Comcast.
Kevin @ Feb 16th 2008 1:30AM
I got rid of time warner cable, who sucks, a lot of paid channels, yes I said paid, just stays blank gray! Liar liar pants on fire TWC! =]! Now I am lovin my Direct TV subscription! =]!

They are offering it in my local area as of last week, and they are already showing lag in the appointment making due to the lack of boxes.
Yankees368 @ Feb 6th 2008 12:06AM
It was just the opposite on Long Island with Cablevision. They ran out (or stoppe ordering) SD boxes and were giving everyone HD boxes.
CassilineKnight @ Feb 6th 2008 12:09AM
I wish this could come to NC. I'm really curious what all the hoopla about this service is about.
Andrew @ Feb 6th 2008 12:34AM
Wait, FiOS is delayed again? Haven't heard that one before.
Greg @ Feb 6th 2008 1:09AM
I just moved away from a FiOS area. I had the HDDVR and 20M Internet. I loved the service, thought I'd be missing it... but Comcast has hooked me up with a slick Tivo branded HDDVR and 16M Internet for a lot less money (well, a lot less money for the first 6 months at least).
Think I can hold onto my FiOS box and get some ransom?
Daryll Strauss @ Feb 6th 2008 1:29AM
The Motorola DVR was so bad that I sent two of them back. I replaced them with HD Tivo's and have been much happier ever since. So anyone who's waiting for a FIOS HD DVR, pick up a Tivo HD instead!
MidnightDT @ Feb 6th 2008 2:04AM
VZW stands for Verizon Wireless. this has nothing to do with Verizon Wireless. this is Verizon Communications(VZ)
the two are actually different companies.
MidnightDT @ Feb 6th 2008 2:04AM
I should say the two are Seperate companies not different.

I just got the triple pack this past weekend with 20mb down and 5mb up. Fastest internet I have ever had. FiOS is a gift from g-d! Cherish it while you still can.
Plus, switching from the Comcast DVR to the Verizon one was so different. I just don't really get the same feel.
ash @ Feb 6th 2008 8:23AM
I signed up for FIOS this past weekend at Best Buy and was told the target date to have an HD receiver is March 10th
jjd+engadgethd @ Feb 6th 2008 10:04AM
No worries. Just pick up a TiVo Series 3 or TiVo HD with a couple of CableCards. You'll be happier anyway.
MHAithaca @ Feb 6th 2008 10:39AM
JJG has the right idea! My parents are happy with their FIOS TV and TiVo HD!
bongho @ Feb 6th 2008 4:45PM
Well I was supposed to get my install tomorrow . So I called to verify they were coming. What a surprise they aren't coming. Of course they wouldn't call me or email me to tell me this. The new install date is 2/27. We'll see if they honor that one.

I have had the FIOS TV, Internet and Phone for about two months now and it's a lot better than Dish Network. I'm saving $60 a month over what I was paying before on the same services and I get a better net connection and more tv channels. The small lineup of true HD is disappointing but I think it's only a matter of time before they catch up - they certainly have the bandwidth for it. If you can get it in your neighborhood go for it. I'm paying $200 a month for phone, internet and 6 boxes one of which is the home media station. If you just needed one or two boxes this would cost you probably $50 less.

I just signed up with Verizon Fios and was told I couldn't get my HD DVR box until mid March. It made me hesitate, but I still pulled the trigger. I'll save around $80 with Verizon's bundled service vs. Dish Network. I'll miss my SDTV Dish DVR, but Verizon's HDTV will be nice (when it finally arrives).

I've been a FIOS TV customer for a year and wanted to upgrade one of my existing standard def STBs to a HD STB. I was told by a Verizon rep that I might be looking at 90 days before any HD equipment--STB or DVR--will be available. Ouch!
VZ Rep @ Feb 19th 2008 10:21PM
I actually work for a Verizon Fios Center in Massachusetts. We've been told we'll be getting more HD and HD-DVR boxes by March 10.
Hope that helps.
New NJ Customer @ Mar 28th 2008 11:34PM
I had Fios installed yesterday. While the installer was at my house, I called Customer Services and they told me that HD boxes are now available, but of course my installer didn't have one. How do I get one? No one at Verizon has been helpful. Apparently I can go to a store with my standard box and exchange it for a new HD box. But, the Customer Service Reps can't guarantee that the store will give me one. Does anyone know how I can get an HD box?
shaw green @ Mar 16th 2008 10:17AM
i called on friday march 3/14 (4 weeks after my 2nd request) to get a hd stb and was told another month ... verizon is not able to even take orders for existing fios customers to upgrade to hd. so much for great service...
rainman928 @ Mar 21st 2008 4:22PM
I was told mid March for HD box. Just got off the phone after being on hold for 25 minutes, and guess what? They are now saying end of April. I am done.
Fred @ Mar 28th 2008 9:48AM
I got FIOS TV in January. Didn't need an HD then...if only I had known!! Just got off the phone with customer service. She more or less confirmed New NJ Customer, saying there were a few in stock, but they couldn't be given out (must be for new customers). She's saying April, but I was previously told March, so we'll see. Funny, she offered to send an SD DVR for no additional charge, but when I told her I had one already, she didn't offer to adjust the charge. If they are not in by end of April, I'm going to cancel and demand I don't get charged the cancellation fee.
New NJ Customer @ Mar 28th 2008 11:35PM
Phil C,
Any luck on getting that new HD box? No one at Verizon Customer Service is being helpful. At this point I don't know why I switched from Cablevision. Verizon Customer Service rep even admitted to me that new customers who order Fios today will get an HD box, but others like me who ordered in the last month have to wait!
Christopher A @ Apr 21st 2008 10:47AM
I have had Fios for over a month. SD boxes where the only choice when I ordered since then I have been put on a "list" for an HD box. I emailed them and they did not reply. I went to a verizon outlet the were somewhat rude and then said I should have come last week, that they had some hd boxes then. I switched from cablevision who was always good to me and provided a fine HD. I am starting to regret my change as I have not been given any definitive answers from verizon and watching standard tv pales in comparison to hd and makes me feel I am being jipped on my viewing experience everytime.
