I'm not too surprised. It is easy to move product when it is sold at fire-sale prices. Just the other day my dad said he was going to buy an HD DVD player. He was not buying it for HD DVDs though, he was buying it because he needed a new DVD player and the HD DVD barely cost more then a regular DVD player and came with 3 free HD DVDs.
Exactly. Why WOULDN'T you buy an HD-DVD player at those prices? Thing is, those prices cannot be sustained for long, and retailers want to make SOME profit on the merchandise they sell. Retailers are going to kill off HD-DVD very soon... it's already happening.

I've been thinking of picking up a hd dvd player for netflix myself. I would never buy a title though.

It still cracks me up that player price is supposed to be a factor. Oh yeah I want to hook up a $99 HD DVD to my $3000 TV give me a freakin' break.
