Anybody thinking that HD DVD is dead or they are on the way out are clearly in a delusional state. Theyve been victimised by Sony & the BDAs baseless propaganda.
Mark my words, the HD DVD Promotional Group havent even started to fight back just yet. Once they unleash their massive marketing & incentive campaign, there is no stopping HD DVD.
Price is KING in this game for the average person which makes up more than 90% of all people. If people really want to kill off Hi Def Media, then go out & buy obsolete expensive Blu-Ray players & movies, if you want Hi Def Media to stand a chance against SD DVD, than buy HD DVD period. Plain & simple.
The DVD Forum will never yield to a incomplete, problematic, profile plagued & extremely expensive Sony Blu-Ray format. So thanks to Sony & the BDA, SD DVD will be around for another 10+ years just until Downloads take over. Blu-Ray stands no chance period.
The problem with Sony is that they were so desperate to compete in the HD arenea that they released a system before it's time. With having to know the difference in profiles (1.0, 1.1, & 2.0) and whether your player will play all the profiles or you need to get a firmware upgrade or buy another player all together is annoying. It's what's mostly kept me away from Blue. I also don't like the way they display the movies the Red camp seems more natural to me (my opinion), looks crisp and clear with no imperfections, while the Blue looks crisp and clear but there are the ocassional imperfections. At first I thought it was me, but as more and more of my friends noticed it we didn't know if it was the PS3 or simply Blue. A little research and elbow greese and we discovered is simply the way the format deals with movies, so my opinion is I prefer Red, if Red dies I will go back to traditional DVDs.
Wow where do you get your info. Lets be honest price doesnt mean as much as movies when you are talking about a MOVIE FORMAT!!. the sooner you realize that the better for yourself because I could care a less about what format I buy I am in it for the movies. I know exactly what I got myself into. I just bought a blu-ray player because I want to watch movies and honestly I have to ask myself how many HD-DVD's I will be buying in the future seeing that there are no exclusives outside of American Gangster that have been announced that I am remotely interested in. Is that Toshibas fault no. Its just Paramount and Universal are releasing nothing and the movies I want to watch from them are all pretty much Spielberg flicks so I wont hold my breath. Also what is with the HD-DVD exclusive Jack Ryan collection finally coming out with a big go !@#$ yourself I mean no extra features on a HD release seem just lazy. The only thing Toshiba is doing right now is fooling people who dont know any better to invest in a new way to watch movies on their HD TV's. The only problem is I think you need to have movies being released on your format to do that. But I dont see them warning the average consumer that what they got might be about all they are going to get.
HD DVD has been victimised?!? LMAO! Priceless comment there.
You've got it all wrong....CONTENT is and always has been king!
What use is having a cheapo player if all you'll be able to show on it is a hugely reduced catalogue and standard DVD's?
But sure, we'll "mark your words" and wait for this impending smackdown from the HD DVD promotional group, although you fanboys have been touting these fantasies for months! what with the "incoming tidal wave of Chinese players", the "certainty of Warner going HD DVD exclusive", and of course the much talked about triple layer vaporware, Blu-ray is indeed screwed!
On the other hand though, I think I'm better off with Blu thanks.
Most people don't know about profiles and they don't need to care either. Neither 1.1 or 2.0 adds much and all discs are going to be backwards compatible. It's funny people are not moaning that USB 2.0 adds features over USB 1.1 or 1.0. Or that Bluetooth 2.0 adds features over Bluetooth 1.0. Why? Because these standards are backwards compatible, just like Blu Ray.
All the fud and bullshit about the issue seems to emanate from HD DVD promoters. The funny thing was back in the day they were crowing about that HD DVD had some minor advantages over Blu Ray such as PIP and internet connectivity. Now they're bitching that Blu Ray offers that functionality, even though the features were and still are marginal to say the least.
Have to agree with the original post. Either HD DVD wins this war, or HDM goes down the crapper because in Sony's incapable hands, the format will just die or at this point be a niche market for years.
And sorry to say bluboys, HD DVD did have the better video compression scheme from the beginning, why else did Blu switch to the same compression scheme? I wonder...
