Amazon's Blu-ray Paramount listings posted erroneously
As has become quite the norm for Amazon, it seems that the trio of flicks it proudly listed as Blu-ray titles just two days back were in fact listed erroneously. A new report over at Heise -- and a quick click back over to the exact same Amazon links -- shows that the films are indeed HD DVDs. So yeah, we wouldn't take any of Amazon's listings from here on out as a sign of the format war getting even crazier, but who knows, try clicking back tomorrow and see if they're scheduled to debut on HD VMD.

That's good to see. I was worried that the format war would end and that consumers would finally be able to jump into the HD movie scene.
I just cannot wait to see more endless posts about whose format gets them more pussy.

First it was the "OMG! Universal is going Blu with Stargate Atlantis!!" story last week, even though the show is only broadcast on a Universal-owned station and is in fact owned by MGM/Sony, and now this. A lot of posts on here talk about Engadget being biased towards Blu-ray. I believe that. Someone defended them by saying that their podcasts and reviews in the past are obviously more HD DVD focused. Those all took place before Warner announced Blu-ray exclusivity. Now they have to tow the company line and bash HD DVD as much as possible to try and help kill it. If I wanted biased news, I'd watch CNN or Fox News. Or anything on NBC. Or any other network news for that matter. Just the facts, please. And researched ones at that. For the record, I have both a PS3 and the add-on for the 360. And I even have more Blu-ray's than HD DVD's, so I could really care less about which way the war goes.

"Someone defended them by saying that their podcasts and reviews in the past are obviously more HD DVD focused. "
That's not true at all. In fact, they brought me on as a guest on one of the podcasts to give a red slant to it. They're mostly Pro-Blu, always have been, and they pretty much admit it. I don't think that it has anything to do with Warner "owning" the site either - just personal preference by the bloggers. That's one reason it'd be nice if I got a writing gig here... (although there's lots more to talk about than the format war). :)
DEEZNUTZ @ Jan 23rd 2008 1:29PM
So you come to ENGADGET HD in hopes of an unbiased approach? You'll be hard pressed to find that ANYWHERE these days. This is a blog, not a newspaper. Lighten TFU.
anon @ Jan 23rd 2008 1:40PM
I meant more that I want the real news, and not just something that some fanboy is hoping people will think is news if enough readers see it. Is that crazy of me? The Atlantis thing I brought up was immeadiately shot down by everyone who posted about it as being a joke of a post. If someone spent 2 minutes going to IMDB, they would see that a story like that should never have been posted. I know people are always going to be biased about things, but like I said, I wouldn't mind reading a story that isn't full of crap. Man, I guess I am nuts for wanting that...
@Xyzzy,
Maybe you being on the podcasts is why someone thought the site had a red slant to it in the past. I can't remember who posted that message, I just remember reading it within the last few days.
zargon @ Jan 23rd 2008 3:35PM
It doesn't matter if it is a geocity (are they even still around) web page, blog, news paper, news station or any other means to deliver news. They all have an agenda, you simply cannot escape it.
Truth Teller @ Jan 23rd 2008 1:37PM
Imagine how I laughed.
So there we are.
Proof that the Blu-ray side will clutch at any straw to try and talk up their game console format.
Tragic.

You are like the energizer bunny, you just keep going and going and going...
Please just stop, save whatever face you have left (which isn't much). Besides, it is just getting old, tiresome and embarrassing.

Come on John, don't be silly you know why.
All the 'I'm only a concerned and outraged 'citizen' here that wants to see an end to.....the war/the flaming/*whatever*' are only ever aimed one way.
DEEZNUTZ @ Jan 23rd 2008 5:18PM
@ TRUTH TELLER,
Yes, you are the innocent martyr who is constantly attacked by relentless Blu-bullies.. boo friggin hoo. Go cry on JOHN TOUGH GUYS shoulder over there. You two are pathetic.
Truth Teller @ Jan 23rd 2008 8:10PM
No DEEZNUTZ.
The only people to be seen bawling their eyes out regularly here doing the idiotic 'boo hoo' routine are the same old dreary Blu-ray gang who quite clearly can't bear to see anyone challenge their infantile 'Blu-ray is God blah blah blah' BS.
DEEZNUTZ @ Jan 23rd 2008 8:29PM
Do you seriously believe you don't do the exact same thing? You bring it on yourself so again, don't cry us a river now... suck it up.
Make some intelligent, thoughtful posts for a change and perhaps even some of your fellow HD-DVD fans may actually respect you.
Take a page out of EDDIE's book... he can flame like the rest of us but at least he can post some great points, whether I agree with them or not.

Truth Teller @ Jan 23rd 2008 4:11PM
Oh dear Mehar.
But.....but.....but I keep being told it's all over & HD DVD is dead.
Why would they do that?
Why would they even bother?
(if what the circle-jerkers have said forever was true?)
Elad @ Jan 23rd 2008 4:15PM
I thought you were the one saying last week that HD movies aren't the future...
I thought you were the one saying that the average consumer won't pay for the extra resolution...
I thought you were the one saying that upconverted DVDs were the future...
I think you're an idiot.

Breaking news!
Elad @ Jan 23rd 2008 4:13PM
Whatever. Lord of the Rings is going to be the series that kills HD DVD. Unless they push it far enough back for that, I don't see any hope.
Mehar @ Jan 23rd 2008 4:27PM
@ Truth Teller, I think it has something to do with the petition that was sent out a while ago, its close to 20 000 signatures, and its gotten alot of media attention. This extension is useless unless the consumers are informed.

I thought people here (or at least most of them) could actually read.
I said that if Blu-ray were to win HDMs on disc would not be the future.

Another laughably illiterate conclusion.
What I said was that they would not pay Blu-ray prices for high def.

Learn to read properly, huh?
I said that if Blu-ray were to win & HD DVD disappear then the future would be between upscaling SD DVD, HD TV services/DVRs & Downloading.
Blu-ray can only ever be a niche product.

(and the rest of your Blu-ray shill crew).
You are very funny in a slightly sad way tho.
ProfWho @ Jan 23rd 2008 5:01PM
Why would Blu-ray = HD disc being a niche market? I fail to see how that would work?
Blu-ray players look to be as expensive as DVD players were a year after they were released
Elad @ Jan 23rd 2008 5:53PM
Yep, you're clearly an idiot then. It won't matter which format wins this shitty war, both will have the same fate. You are unfortunately too shortsighted to see the big picture here.
Let's just speculate a bit here. I'm not saying this is how it's going to go down or anything, but for arguments sake...
Let's say in 4 months time Warner goes Blu exclusive as planned. Because of this, the market goes even more in Blu's favour than it is now, and Paramount feels it has to switch. Then, let's say that in the next 8 months, Lord of the Rings, and Star Wars (trilogies) are both released on Blu Ray. Let's pretend that this is the fatal blow to Toshiba. Universal is forced to switch and Toshiba puts an end to HD DVD. Okay, that's all speculative. Toshiba would start making Blu Ray players, and along with all the other CE companies, prices go down because of competition, lower manufacturing costs, and companies like Westinghouse and the like find it safe to start manufacturing cheap HDM players because the format war is over.
My first question would be this.
1) Do you really think that prices would stay high if HD DVD were out of the picture, and BDA had to start competing with DVD. I personally don't because I don't think that all of those rich successful minds in the BDA would be stupid enough not to realize that prices NEED to go down to compete with DVD and for mass market adoption. If you really think that you are smarter than them, then okay. We'll have to just agree to disagree there.
My second question is this.
Would you really just completely opt out of the hard media HDM format if Blu Ray won? If Toshiba in it's first run at BD players made a combo player, would you really not buy it. If Toshiba later made a 100-200 dollar player for the Christmas shopping season, would you really not buy it out of spite. If so, then I wish you the best of luck because you not being able to enjoy the best Hi Def format available after this is all over will not make a difference. You will only punish yourself, and will make no impact at the owners and people involved in the BDA. I will be the first to say that if Toshiba won tomorrow, I'd buy an HD DVD player... Tomorrow. i don't care who wins. I have no allegiance to Sony. I just want my HD movies. I got a PS3 because it was a BD player that wouldn't suffer from profile problems, and if Blu Ray lost, I would still have something in a game console. Right now I'm pretty happy with my purchase. Sue me. I think that you are really the one that needs to stop calling people fan boys, because clearly you are among the top in that category. I think every person on this site that boasts about one formats superiority is an idiot. They're the same thing. The only difference is studio support. Unfortunately, every idiot on this site thinks that everything is in complete black and white terms. There are people that don't care which one wins and don't support one with undying devotion. The only reason I make posts saying things like once LotR hits Blu Ray, I think it's over is not because I love BluRay or Sony or anything. It's because I think it's the truth. It's the biggest movie franchise ever in my opinion, and is going to be decisive in this war. Just like when I say that Blu Ray will achieve mainstream adoption, it's not from fan boy retardation, it's because of the aforementioned reasons.
The only reason that I said that you didn't think that HDM was the future is because I didn't think that you were so shortsighted that you couldn't see what the future may and probably will hold for Blu Ray. For that, I clearly see I was wrong. It's not because I'm illiterate, it's because I gave to much faith in your intelligence. And for that I am sorry.

AGAIN?
truthteller, you spend too much time digging up quotes and defending yourself.
how old are you? I don't know too many adults that have so little tact they have to say things like "you're pathetic and i laugh at you".
The anonymity of the internet has brought out the worst in people.
Truth Teller @ Jan 24th 2008 9:29AM
locke6854, I'd just like to congratulate you on your eagle eyed impartial bash here.
I consider myself honoured that out of all the daily BS & personal attacks posted here by the Blu-ray collective you chose to slam me for having the gaul to give a little back in your pretence of being ever-so balanced and weary of all the sh!te that goes on here.
You're such a sweetie & a treasure.
Awwwwww bless.

You're on E-roids tough guy. Keep to the subject at hand and stop trying to be a bad-ass just because you get picked on at high school every day you wuss. You can't stand my comments, don't come back kiddo.
DEEZNUTZ @ Jan 23rd 2008 5:38PM
Your ignorance has no limits... calm down, your head is about to explode! Do you realize how stupid you are with posts like that? Why would you even attempt to act tough online? You're a silly boy, go find a kid friendly, mommy approved blog... don't waste another post on me either.
DEEZNUTZ @ Jan 23rd 2008 8:38PM
Hey JOHN,
I challenge you to make ONE intelligent post... fckn loser. Your anger is a tell-tale sign that you have a small penis and that your a self-loathing homo.
Are you really that bitter about HD-DVD's current status? So cry on your partners shoulder and then cuddle up to watch some of your HD-DVD collection.
Gus @ Jan 23rd 2008 9:53PM

I think your both embarrassing yourselves, but the tears are rolling down my cheeks, so keep going!

L.S. is obviously majorly p*ssed off since he bought into an obsolete format and due to his dysfunctional upbringing and myriad of personality disorders, is resorting to p*ssing off blu-ray fans to brighten up his dour mood. Pretty transparent and sad to see. He's done it on other boards, but they don't tolerate it like they do on EngadgetHD, which freely tolerates HD DVD trolls in an attempt to appease all the blu-ray bias conspiracy theorists. Don't fret blu-ray fans, with 70% of Hollywood releases coming out on blu-ray only, with nearly 90% of hardware and software sales, even HD DVD fans are dumping their players on Ebay and jumping on the blu-ray bandwagon. L.S. is just p*ssed because he can't quite manage the jump yet. Maybe in a few years lol.
Truth Teller @ Jan 23rd 2008 8:04PM
LMAO
Just think, all this pathetic purile abuse and the usual series of extremely laughable 'Blu-ray uber alles' BS was all sparked off by a story that showed Paramount was not going Blu-ray at all.
You guys are hilarious.
