Not even a month after Time Warner Cable (partly owned by Time Warner, parent company of AOL, which owns Engadget) dished out a healthy serving of high-definition offerings in New York's
capital city, it appears as if the vast majority of those (along with a few others) are making their way into Queens. According to Matt, Woodside (a neighborhood in Queens, NY) residents can now fetch CNN HD, M HD, History Channel HD, A&E HD, Food Network HD, Lifetime Movies HD, HGTV HD, TMC HD, Versus HD and... NFL HD. No need to wipe your eyes -- as you can see above, NFL HD is indeed situated on channel 795, though we're hesitant to believe that
this is the first indication of TWC and NFL Network working out their
issues. For customers in the area, why not fire up your STB and flip through the new additions, and while you're at it, drop us a line in comments with what exactly shows up on 795.
Update: Apparently, the Staten Island TWC lineup is the same as Woodside's, and in that locale, channel 795 is N
HL HD rather than N
FL HD. An unfortunate typo, indeed. Thanks, UnnDunn!
[Thanks, Matt]

As a Time Warner customer out here in Los Angeles, I have to say I'm somewhat jealous....
I'd trade my TBS and TNT fake HD channels for National Geographic and History in HD anyday of the week.
Man, I wish Time Warner would hurry it up with the HD's already....

I agree. TWC hasn't given us a new HD channel (save one OTA channel) since adding TBS in October. This is getting rediculous!!
Jeff H @ Jan 21st 2008 10:15PM
I have to agree! TWC in LA hasn't added an HD Channel (except one OTA local) since adding TBS and TNT in October. I would give anything for just one of those other channels that we don't have (History, A&E, Food, Lifetime, HGTV, National Geographic, Versus, or NHL.) Are we the only ones not getting these channels?
UnnDunn @ Jan 21st 2008 8:42PM
I have TWC in Staten Island, which has the same HD lineup as Woodside Queens.
795 is actually NHL HD (Hockey, not Football).
The website is mistaken. But this is nothing new.

As proof, I present this:

I just want Travel HD, USA HD, TLC HD, Discovery HD, & The Science Channel HD
texan @ Jan 21st 2008 9:38PM
Travel channel hd, History hd, The Science Channel HD would make me happy , they can have the tnt tbs crap all it is is strech-oh tv anyway.

Well, congrats to Queens! TWC, could you please move a bit west and hook us up in North East Ohio! We have a total of 13 "free" HD channels, and two of those are PBS, which show the exact same content! The last channel we got was TBS in October. Not only worthless as an HD channel, but that's all that was added for us! It makes me sick to see other markets getting more channels. Directv looks better and better everyday! Come on Time Warner!
UnnDunn @ Jan 22nd 2008 9:25AM
It should be noted that the reason TWC is able to offer this many HD channels in Staten Island and Woodside, Queens is because they recently embarked on a bandwidth reclamation project on those two systems. There are very few analog channels broadcast on those systems now, something less than 30 analogs.
Manhattan, Brooklyn/SE Queens and the Bronx still have their full complement of analogs (around 90) and consequently have about 10 fewer HD channels than we do in SI and Woodside.
The discrepancy among systems in the same city is the cause of a lot of chagrin among residents of the HD-deprived boroughs, which could be a factor as the City re-evaluates TWCs franchise agreement which expires in the coming months.

BTW, while I really AM happy for my brothers and sisters in Woodside and SI, this isn't all that "new." SI has had many more HD channels since late summer. Woodside got theirs in November.
But the REAL issue is that in both SI and Woodside, TWC customers have available a 10% overall discount on their rates. In Manhattan, there is NO DISCOUNT AVAILABLE. We PAY MORE and GET LESS. From the exact same bunch of crooks.
Many of us have started referring to them as Crime Warner. In this case, that is 100% on the money.

I live in Brooklyn, and so far we've been "HD Lite" since I upgraded to HD in October. I wish we would get SciFi HD before the final season of Battlestar Galactica begins in March. It's time for 'Crime Warner' to drop more analog channels and add at least 15-20 more HD channels in the next few weeks, including SciFi HD, CNN HD & more.
DROP SOME ANALOGS !!!
