DISH Network adds HD only package
Devout HD fans don't have a problem spending money -- in fact they'll usually spend whatever it takes on the latest HDTV or HD Movie player -- but paying for all those SD channels that are useless 'cause they don't have HD programming can really get under your skin. Luckily DISH Network is listening, and starting February 1st there will be a new package that only includes HD channels -- more specifically, it includes all HD channels within dishHD Ultimate, excluding HD regional sports networks -- and the best news of all is, as you'd expect it's less expensive at $29.00 a month. But if you can't let go of your South Park addiction don't worry, as there are is also a new dishHD Essential plan that might work out better for you. This great news combined with Dish's 100/100 plan could once again make Dish the HD leader.Read - dishHD only.

I'm deactivating my DirecTV account because $75 a month is too much to pay for a single person. The only channels I watched were Hi-Def. $29 I could handle.

This is perfect, love the idea and $29.99 is definitely do-able.
utot @ Jan 18th 2008 5:30PM
I will definitely drop my DirecTV and switch to DISH just because of this!!!
mr. Obsession @ Jan 18th 2008 5:38PM
FYI: Folks at the liked forum are reporting the REAL cost (including service fees, etc.) comes to $51.97...not $29.99.

Please be more specific on which forum or email me the link.
thanks

I meant to say that they aren't saying anything about a service charge. It's 29.99 a month for HD only and 34.99 with locals. I have Dish and there aren't any service fees as long as you have your Receiver connected to a telephone line or to high speed internet.

"I have Dish and there aren't any service fees as long as you have your Receiver connected to a telephone line or to high speed internet."
I don't understand what the distinction is. Why is having an unconnected (to phone or net) receiver a problem?
locke6854 @ Jan 19th 2008 7:49AM
when i asked dish, they said even if you dont pay your bills or order ppv using this phoneline, they can use it to track your receiver by pinging it. Good for if it gets stolen, and bad because they'll probably add that $5 no-phoneline fee for using someone elses receiver/dvr solution.
jake18oly @ Jan 19th 2008 11:53AM
Dish told me that if the receiver is not connected to a phoneline or to they internet they have to send updates through the satellite. I don't know why they charge you 5 bucks to send updates through the satellite but I don't have a problem with it since my router is close to my tv.

What happen to Dish getting USA and Sci-fi on HD?
TexRob @ Jan 19th 2008 4:43PM
If they added USA, sci fi, comedy (does it have MTV? wife has to have that) I would do this in a heartbeat. I still watch too much Comedy though, and I wouldn't mind cartoon network too.
csreborn @ Jan 19th 2008 5:13PM
I just called and signed up for this, install will be Feb 2nd. I get ALL their HD channels for $10 + $5 for local HD channels (CBS, NBC, etc) and install and equipment for free because of good credit. I made the guy send me my deal in email, so even if they screwed up in price they have to honor it.
Kevin @ Jan 20th 2008 11:56PM
How did you get the HD channels for $10 CSREBORN? Are you a current DISH customer? What no. do you call? Special promotion to mention? thanks in advance.... kevin

All I can say about the new HD packages is awful, awful, awful. I was so excited when I heard that Dish was coming out with new HD channels today and when I looked at them I could not believe the garbage it was. Nation Geographic, The Science channel, The Golf Channel, HD News, HD Movies, Monsters, HD Net, Film Fest? Are you kidding me? Why do we need these horrible channels in HD? Where's USA HD, FX HD, SciFi HD? Then to top it all off you want to charge more $? Wow Dish you are going to lose allot of customers.
