If the porn industry is indeed pivotal to format
success, the current HDM war may be far from over. Digital Playground's
move to blu aside, the porn industry has not seen the same kind of bandwagon-hopping as the more mainstream media. Read through the link to get the lowdown on the individual players, but suffice it to say that there's a pull between mainstream studio pull for Blu-ray and affordability for HD DVD. If what we heard from the BDA
press conference at CES is any indication, the consumers will follow where the studios lead. The question is whether the porn industry will fall in line with those studios or vote for the lower royalty costs of HD DVD.

OK, and anybody is still buying porn on optical media? With the abundance of free/pay per download porn on the internet the decisive factor is of course way different than in the VHS days where VHS was about the only source to get it.

If people want to see their porn in high-def, discs are pretty much the only practical option for the time being.
Xander @ Jan 15th 2008 7:30AM
@Ted: Eh, did you actually check the internet? Many providers provide HD downloads (or should I be ashamed now for knowing?), on Bittorrent its HD porn galore. And because more and more people give preference to shorter clips instead of a full movie length for their porn, also more and more people have the bandwidth to be easily able to download it.
OK, if you live in a high bandwidth deprived area AND like full movielength, you might consider optical discs. But that will not a market big enough to decide this format war.

I buy porn in high def... 18 hd dvds and 2 blu-rays ... Digital playground is not blu-ray exclusive... they are just releasing more blu-rays... why do you websites feel the need to continue that FUD? did warner make you feeling blu? no news for HD DVD could be good news?

what... I don't pay full price... i pay 20-30 each for my hd dvds and I got a blu-ray porn from japan thanks to one of my friends at highdefdigest and it was hard to find, but i found a special on debbie loves dallas blu-ray... I noticed that HD DVD porn is cheaper and easier to find on special due to replication cost (about 4 dollars wholesale and 10-15 dollars retail)... Anyone want these good deals you can find me on Highdefdigest or on AVS. my handle is ccphilly1984. on HDD, just start a thread asking or contribute to an adult movie deal or release thread, on AVS there is an HD porn master thread sticky you can post at.

Digital Playground switched from HD DVD to neutral, but at AVN they announced they're dropping HD DVD and going 100% Blu-ray.

Good to know I'm not the only one allergic to paying $ony for the privilege of sniffing their farts.
mike @ Jan 15th 2008 9:34PM
you pay for porn? Porn is good for 1 thing, 1 thing which is free to do. If I really wanted, I can accomplish my goals without porn. Porn is just that toppings on a meal, no need to ever pay for it.

People who want to enjoy porn as a couple are probably going to buy discs. But yeah, I don't think porn is going to have as much of an impact in deciding the war as they did during the VHS days.
