I had Directv and switched to Dish. Their dvr is simply the best. Their customer service is always friendlier, and faster to get through. As for the lead Directv has in hd channels, Dish will be adding dozens of new markets this year for hd locals, and plans on a huge expansion with their new sats for hd national channels. One of the best features that Dish has that I love is the external hard drive. I now have 2 500gb seagates full of hd and regular def material waiting to be viewed. So no longer does the size of the hard drive on the dvr itself really matter. And the service works beautifully!
Good to hear that Dish has great customer service as well, although I can't see how it'd be better than my experience with DirecTV. "Anything but cable," is my motto! :D
