Fans of open wheel racing rejoice, ESPN and ABC have announced they will broadcast all 16 events of 2008 in high definition. Just like ESPN's "most advanced"
NASCAR coverage, all the cameras covering the event will be HD, including in-car. The 16 races will consist of seven each aired on ESPN2 and ABC, two on ESPN, as well as 16 Indy Pro Series races that will air on ESPN2-HD. Last year's
Indianapolis 500 was the first IndyCar event in HD and now its far from the last.
ESPNews,
ESPN U,
X Games and now IndyCar have gotten the 720p treatment, we just want to know what they will do next.

Too bad nobody will watch it.
ESPN's coverage of NASCAR was atrocious last season. The producer himself said that they stick to a script and change no matter what the race dictates.

I only watch IndyCar. I don't watch NASCAR.

Well its not F1 but it'll do for now. I dont get much excitment out of nascar with them only going in circles which doesnt take as much skill.

If doesn't take all that much skill why is Montoya still only the 20th best in NASCAR?
dlahay @ Mar 30th 2008 7:29PM
Montoya hasn't dumbed himself down enough to improve.

American-based open wheel, formula style racing is dead (i.e. IRL, CART/Champcar)
The owner of the Indy 500 track divided the sport and split the formerly large fanbase years ago.
The various other stakeholders have subsequently killed it by making numerous idiotic business decisions.
Their TV ratings are almost non-existent.
Broadcasting a bad/broken product in HD isn't going to help.
Time to blow the whole thing up and start over.
