Comcast TiVo in New England market now, maybe later elsewhere
Speaking at an investor's conference, TiVo CEO Tom Rogers stated that the service is available to New England area Comcast customers. Unfortunately, he gave no timeline when or where it would spread from there. Apparently, the system is undergoing some "fine tuning" of its initial deployment. Some good news for Comcast customers eagerly awaiting the service is that the delay isn't due to unhappiness between Comcast and TiVo; the Comcast CFO said "We think the product is very good." Hang in there, guys, you just might get this service in your area yet.

Too bad that with the WGA strike there is a dearth of new programming to record.

According to people on AVS, the Comcast TiVo software is very buggy, unfinished and, well, crap.
So I'm not particularly holding my breath for it to reach NJ. We'll probably have FiOS by the time it gets here anyways.

Just got TIVO downloaded to my Comcast box. It is definitely not ready for prime time. On Demand freezes indefinitely. Comcast says they are having server problems for TIVO subscribers with On Demand. When you switch tuners during live programming it plays live for a few seconds then skips back about ten seconds and starts again. And it is accompanied by tiling. I may go back to the generic DVR until they get the bugs worked out.

The deployment issue is part of why Comcast is starting out in NE only. There's a lot of active development going on to improve the quality of service. Ultimately TiVoHD/Series3 is still a better, more mature product (in no small part because TiVo got to design the hardware instead of using Moto STBs). However, having used both the original Comcast DVR software and the TiVo software, it's way better than the old one IMO.

I say "too little too late". I already gave up 6 months ago and got a real tivo. The only time I miss the comcast box is the lack of on demand.

Apparently their definition of New England does not include Connecticut, as it is still not available here in Windsor.
