Blu-ray press conference coverage LIVE
We're on the ground at the Blu-ray Disc Associations CES press conference. We're not sure, but they might be in a pretty good and boastful mood. We don't know if the hyperbole could match last year's, but check out the liveblog to find out how it went down in 2007, and what to expect from blue in 2008.

Do you think they will announce HD DVD is dead like last year? I hope so as it turned out not to be true. Gives HD DVD fuel to come back.

"...and in closing we would just like to recognize a few people for all of their hard work since the launch. Ben? .....no, no, get up here man... Ben we'd just like to present you with the BDA's trophy for outstanding achievement. We don't know where we'd be without you, man."
(Kidding, kidding! Great job on the coverage. But be honest...the BDA guys all wanted to shake your hand personally.)

"We'd also like to give a major shout-out to Bill Hunt over at the Digital Bits.. your word is bond wit the BDA, Bill. Oh, and Linda over at accounting lost your address.. don't worry.. your Project Hydra check is in the mail tomorrow!"

yea but if blu-ray takes mass adoption as the definative HDM format, Ben is gonna need something else for his claim to fame.
So.. Ben "RS232" Drawbaugh -- how was the press conference at the DANCE CLUB that served alchohol??
Devron @ Jan 7th 2008 8:59PM
Ben - you know I'm only joking. But seriously, when I saw the logo, all my head could see during the press conference was the Pioneer guy leaning over to the Sony guy like...."OK, don't look now but over to the right, fifth seat back, I think I just saw Ben Drawbaugh. Totally. NO Stephen!...don't look over there now or else he's gonna know I told you to look!"

Blu-ray Disc Association,
Don't crack the champagne yet.
Leave it on ice.
I am.
Be humble.
Stay focused.
Hard to the finish.
Vanguard.

I would feel much more confident going into the Blu-Ray conference rather than the HD DVD one. Theres lots of positive things Blu-Ray reps can say. But whats an HD DVD rep supposed to say.
I hope they don't come off too cocky. (I can dream can't I). Unfortunately Toshiba wants licensing fees just as much as Sony so its not over yet.
Austin @ Jan 8th 2008 3:08AM
Yeah.. watch them gloat and declare "Victory Once And For All!". Remember people, you can thank the people that are going to be sitting in those seats for destroying any future chance of mass-market adoption (and quality) of HDM on behalf of their Sony overlords.

Too right Austin.
Blu-ray (if it sticks to it's original intentions) stands no chance whatsoever against SD DVD.
If the mass-market wants high def it will have to go for either HD TV satellite cable DRV & downloads.
All nicely locked up with DRM to prevent any 'unathorised use'
(even from those who have already paid for it).
Thanks guys, you all know who you are.
The moron game console fanboy element can pat themselves on the back as their brave new world doesn't do what they all 'believed' (so fervently) it would do.
It's kind of ironic.
In the longer run this is exactly what they (the movie/content industry) all wanted - excepting Sony CE who have been suckered into the wrong war & trashed their gaming division over this.
