Video: 82-inch 4K Sony prototype display gets showcased

Sony's got a thing for 82-inch displays, and sure enough, it's showcasing yet another iteration at this CES. This go 'round, the display being highlighted was displaying content at 4K -- well, when it wasn't showing four separate screens at 1080p apiece, that is. Drooling yet? Probably a custom digital media server. Studios transfer films to digital using 4K and 8K scanners. They are probably piping that to this display.
I saw something similar in the early-90's when one of the first HDTV's was on display. At that time, the only way to display HD on it was to use one of a half-dozen digital HD tape formats on a prototype commercial production device.

Shouldn't the article say "8K", rather than "4K"? This TV can display "4x 2K" which equals "8K".

Please check your math before opening your mouth. 4 times the resolution of 2K is 4K.

4x2=8
If it's something to do with the way screen resolution is calculated then it's different; Otherwise it should be 8.

*Sigh* Please check YOUR math. 1080p is 1920x1080 resolution but we don't call it 2073600, do we? In this case 4k x 2k is read as "four thousand BY two thousand" and refers to the pixel count.
The resolution on this bad boy is 4096x2160 and it is commonly refered to as "4K" resolution.

same thing at samsung...guess sony could not help it as samsung is only tv size lcd supplier for sony...from sony funded s-lcd
