Just
as expected, Comcast and Insight Communications have wrapped up the so-called "Insight Midwest Transaction." With the completion, Comcast now owns 100-percent of the cable systems serving Illinois customers in Rockford / Dixon, Quincy / Macomb, Springfield, Peoria and Champaign / Urbana as well as Indiana customers in Bloomington, Anderson, and Lafayette / Kokomo. It was also noted that Insight has full ownership of cable systems in Louisville, Lexington, Bowling Green and Covington, Kentucky along with those in Evansville, Indiana and Columbus, Ohio. Considering just how much area this deal covers, we've all ideas a reader or two has been affected one way or another -- if that's you, drop us a comment and let us know how things are faring, would you?

Speaking of dropping....when Insight went to Comcast here in Fishers, IN, my wife and I dropped Comcast except for the cable modem and went to Dish. Now only if AT&T would roll out dsl/Uverse to our neighborhood, we can totally get rid of Comcast.

I'm willing to give Comcast a shot. I had them in Michigan, and had no problems. I'm hoping now we'll get more HD channels. When I would ask Insight about TLC, Discovery and Animal Planet in HD, customer service would just answer with a "huh?"
And I'm looking forward to not seeing those INSANELY ANNOYING Insight commercials anymore. "DSL stands for.... Desperately Seeking Lickity-splitness!"
Adam @ Jan 4th 2008 8:51AM
Uverse DSL equals fiber to my neighborhood and then the cable line the last few yards to my house. It's at least 6mbps download...and that's all I need.

Haha! I couldn't agree more, I hate those commercials.

The first day of cut over (Jan 1, a football/parade day), our HD stations did not work. Not sure who's fault it was, but with my Comcast past experiences, its easy to blame them. Also, we have received more information from news services than the companies as to what will change. I have even emailed them asking what is going on, and I doubt they know as I receive no responses. I am graciously giving Comcast about 1-2 months to impress me before I switch to DirecTV. BTW, Insight claimed that they would be adding more HD stations during summer '08.

I've been an Insight customer in Columbus and haven't had any problems with Insight. I've actually been pretty pleased with their service.
TrentD @ Jan 4th 2008 8:24AM
I like Insight's customer service, but their HD transition has been painfully slow. We only have about 20 available HD channels in Lexington.

So far I've not been impressed with Comcast. I don't think I should have noticed a difference, but here in Bloomington my ping times have been horrible. The only reason we maintain a broadband connection with them is for gaming, but if they can't put out, then I'm gone.

I'm an Insight customer out of the Evansville area and I have to say that I was pretty happy that we got to stay with Insight. We just got a nice new chunk of HD channels added in December - let's hope they continue to add to that list. The best part about Insight in my opinion is their Internet Service. I get consistent 15Mbps download speeds. I was afraid that the Internet service might drop in quality after the split with Comcast, but so far so good.

The Insight Commercials have to be the worst commercials to ever grace the airwaves. Cheesy, terrible, and annoying can't even begin to describe how bad they are.
I, as well, live in Lexington and the HD transition has been absolutely horrible. They've taken forever to add channels and just recently added about 5-6 or more to an already abysmal lineup. I called Insight to complain about not having as many HD channels as I should have for paying extra and the CSR told me they main portion of customers that were leaving cable were going to satellite MAINLY for the HD reasons. So they've added a few more to keep the small flame of hope alive, but they'll extinguish that as soon as they jack the HD Pack prices.
Annoying commercials, annoying company.

I'm an Insight customer (now Comcast) in Rockford and I've been happy with Insight's cable service and internet, however, they are severely lacking in the HD department. Since the Comcast take-over announcement last year, I've been eager for Comcast in hopes they would expand the HD offerings. My family, just 30 miles away, has Comcast and has about twice the amount of HD channels. Including WGNHD and Comcast Sports Net HD; a must for a Cubs fan. I'm hoping these will come in time for baseball season.
Matt @ Jan 4th 2008 10:41AM
BTW, there's been no real "transition" from Insight to Comcast. Only a title screen when I turn on my box that says my cable service is now Comcast, more info coming soon, or something like that. No problems or interruptions so far.
TrentD @ Jan 4th 2008 11:55AM
If they don't add the Sci-Fi channel HD by March when BSG comes back on, I'm going to DTV!
TrentD @ Jan 4th 2008 2:24PM
Has anyone else heard the rumor that an additional 7-10 HD channels are coming to Insight within 2 months?
picosauce @ Jan 4th 2008 3:42PM
SPRINGFIELD, IL market. Called Insight customer service now Comcast and asked about product information. Currently no channels have changed at all. I asked when the Comcast channels and product offerings would start. They gave me a date of January 24th. I am hopefull that my broadband speed will only get faster and we get more HD channels for about the same price. I have heard of big price increases with COMCAST. Currently with the old Insight Offering I get 9 HD channels including locals, DVR, and get at least 10MB internet for $99/month. Note I do not have premium channels. If you use the old Insight nomenclature I have the Digital 2.0.
Calvin @ Jan 4th 2008 5:16PM
Do all Comcast customers get inDemand sports channels? Insight doesn't have MLB Extra Innings, and I had to watch the Yankees self-destruct via broadband last season. If they're going to suck, I want to see it in HD.
ZERO @ Jan 10th 2008 3:33PM
I wish that Comcast would take over Lexinton too. Insight needs to gets it's act together. They only offer 10MB internet while comcast is giving 12MB-15MB with bursting up to 24MB. On top of that the HD is so limited. At least give me CNN-HD come on! You would think that they could at least offer all of the news stations.
Sam @ Jan 10th 2008 4:57PM
I'm just annoyed that here in Chambana we have almost no alternatives in broadband provider, and if I'm correct...Comcast implements bandwidth control and limits, which is totally out of the blue considering I've been with Insight for the past 5 years without having to worry about bandwidth
