Those who can already smell the rubber burning are probably antsy to see SPEED finally
go HD in February, and while there's still a few weeks left until the channel serves up 100 hours of NASCAR coverage in high-definition, here's a few more details to tide you over. Starting on the 7th of next month, the channel will be covering the Gatorade Duel 150s, the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race, NASCAR RaceDay and loads more surrounding the 50th anniversary of the Daytona 500. Additionally, it's aiming to bring other (read: non-live events) programming to high-definition as well, and according to SPEED's senior VP of production and network operations Rick Miner, the channel will be "transitioning all of its event programming to HD" over the course of the 2008 season. Oh, and just in case that wasn't enough for you gearheads, expect an all new interactive website to launch alongside the HD network, too.

NASCAR coverage is worthless to real auto racing fans.
The Fuzz 53 @ Jan 3rd 2008 9:09AM
Yea, there definitly needs to be more WRC!
HTMensch @ Jan 3rd 2008 11:39AM
Galley: Instead of dissing NASCAR and Speed's wall-to-wall coverage of it, you should be down on your knees every day thanking God for it, because without NASCAR bringing in the sponsors, paying the bills, and filling out the broadcast schedule, there would be no Speed, and there would be none of the great other racing coverage they provide, including Formula One, MotoGP, etc. As a Formula One, MotoGP, A1GP, and WRC fan, I am very thankful for NASCAR. Y'all should be, too!

Yes because I loved it when NASCAR coverage pre-emps my F1 and WRC coverage.

WTFE!!!
Back in the Speedvision days, viewers got a taste of everything from every corner of the world. Once News Corp. purchased it, things started to go downhill. I don't like NASCAR, but I respect the drivers and the fans who support them and the series. But they need their OWN channel, a SPEED/NASCAR Network per se. I really do miss WRC and British Touring cars. There are so many more series that I can't think of right now because this has been a sore point for many of us. Sorry to pick on you, but there is so much damn NASCAR programming on SPEED these days that I can't help but to vent!
DustoMan @ Jan 3rd 2008 12:11PM
I'll take F1 in widescreen, please.
Alex @ Jan 3rd 2008 6:39PM
Finally. I can't wait for F1 in HD.
And NASCAR does help pay the bills, but SPEED somehow survived as SpeedVision before NASCAR came in.

Screw nascar, I want F1 in HD. and i am nowhere near thankful for nascar
bearz @ Jan 4th 2008 11:59AM
Speed was much better without the Nascar coverage.
Now I only tune in for F1 coverage and a couple of the classic car shows.

Agreed... couldn't care less about Nascar but would kill for an F1 feed in HD!
