As of now (3:23PM) 23 of the top High Def Disc sales are Blu-Ray.
Blu-Ray has 30 of the top 100 DVD and High Def DIsc sales. While HD DVD has 3.

These sales rankings are 100% fake, the mighty HDDVD has blu-ray on the ropes as we speak. HDDVD is crushing blu-ray to dust before its stampede of record breaking sales. Blu-ray users are burning their players by the billions and we expect 2 billion more blu-ray players to be burned by the end of the day. Today is a glorious victory for HDDVD and our comrades. I expect blu-ray's surrender at any moment. In fact we have preliminary reports of such surrender happening as we speak.

Besides the Bogo, which is always a good thing for consumers, be it on Blu or Red side, I'm also ever amused at the tone the articles take most of the time here on engadgethd now.
Did you notice how the HD DVD Bogo article said it was "great" and HD DVD did great, took for the first time the 4 top spots of the list, and bla bla.
This time, despite BR having taken at one point the 6 top spots (missing from the article) it literally drips of sarcasm and mockery toward BR.
I find -that- very interesting, after Ben felt compelled to write an article to really specify that the PS3 is -not- the best Blu Ray player (which followed an article about 1.1 saying erronously that the PS3 was the -only- 1.1 compliant player, and busting the Panny BD30K for being "untested").
You know guys, I'd give you more props if you admitted officially that you prefer HD DVD (why, I don't know). And If you don't, please take a hard cold look at the tone of your articles. If you want to do humor (that's a blog after all), try to spread it a bit more equally on both sides to try to express some neutrality, mkay?

Not surprising in the least. What's amusing though is all the fuss the HD DVD fanboys made about the 4 Potter movies topping the DVD sales chart when they were included in their BOGO a week ago or so ago. Talking all kinds of stupid non-sense about how BR never accomplished the same thing with their BOGOs... well, DUH! A movie as popular and as new relase as the Potter films had ever been included in the BR BOGOs... it was always older catalog titles. It was obvious that the exact same thing would happen if the same movies were included in a BR BOGO even if the HD DVD camp refuised to admit it. Well, now they can't deny it. It happened and to a far greater degree with movies beyond the Potter films topping the charts.

Yeah, not exactly a shocker that lower prices lead to more sales, but whats with the difference in attitudes between the two stories guys? At the start of this Blu-Ray had a 6.7 sales ranking in their top ten discs and 19.08 in their top 25, has that ever happened before? They had 46 in the top 100 and its now 47..has that ever happened before?
Eproductwars isn't even coming close to accurately tallying how much in the way of sales its doing, highdefdigest is ironically enough the more accurate source here.
Blu-Ray has been leading HD-DVD more or less all year, it took them a sale with several films a couple of weeks old to outrank Blu-Ray and then Blu-ray a week later with older films (after HP everything else is a month old or older) bested that handily.

Do you people really think it quantity that drives studios decisons? The studios have been taking a huge hit on margin by allowing the blurays to be sold at these prices.
Any idiot can sell good product cheap. whohc is what we see here. A cheap shot to bouy up total sales numbers, so each camp can stroke themselves.
You can bet they are not looking at the numbers of disks sold. But how much money they made from what they sold. Bluray is on very shakey ground IMO if it comes to this test.
Having said that, I did spend a lot of money during these BOGOS for both sides.

Graham, if you look at the actual numbers the cost difference between BD50 and HD30 isn't very large (15 cents per disc) and BD25 actually has a cost advantage over HD30 in smaller runs.
So yes, quantity is the most important factor here because the other associated costs tend to be about the same elsewhere.

Uh the movie studio isn't losing money on the discs. Amazon is just making less per disc sold.
Amzon probably gets a better price for the movies than retail stores and they do not have any shelf space to pay for. That is how they can sell th emovies with less margin and still actually make more profit per movie than Best Buy.
With a Bogo they are looking to increase profits through volume. They make $5 per disc instead of $10 but sell twice as many so the end profit for each period is the same. The more movies they sell th ebetter price they can get on the reorder from the studio.
