Poll: Is your console connected to an HDTV?
by Darren Murph, posted Dec 22nd 2007 at 12:00PM
We know what
Nielsen found, but now we're interested in doing a little super-scientific research of our own. For all the gamers out there, what kind of television is your console(s) connected to? Still rockin' the RCA tube set circa 1991? Just upgraded to a snazzy new flat-panel? Check out the options below and toss in your vote, or if you don't see anything you like, sound off in comments, capiche?

How about those of us with both a 360 and a PS3--those choices should be checkboxes instead of radio buttons.
SouthPaw @ Dec 22nd 2007 12:17PM
The Nielsen numbers were poorly described percentages. Many People including me bought their PS3 as a Blu-Ray movie player not a game console.
idl3mind @ Dec 22nd 2007 12:23PM
yes! both my PS3 and Xbox360 are connected to an HDTV
David Hildreth @ Dec 22nd 2007 12:28PM
My PS3 is kickin' out 1080p and my wii a silly but loveable 480p.
J. Evans Turner @ Dec 22nd 2007 12:28PM
This should be a "choose all that apply" form, otherwise the results are invalid. I am a PS3 owner with an HDTV, but I'm also a Wii owner. Both consoles use the same TV.
Jeff @ Dec 22nd 2007 12:32PM
360 and Wii hooked up to HDTV
Big Sam @ Dec 22nd 2007 12:33PM
My PS3 and Xbox 360 are hooked up to a HDTV. The vast majority of my gaming is on the 360; I pretty much only watch movies on the PS3.
Jay @ Dec 22nd 2007 12:46PM
I have both a PS3 and an XBOX 360, and they are both connected to my HD TV.
Michael @ Dec 22nd 2007 12:55PM
Plain old X-Box (no 360, yet) but it is hooked up to an HDTV.
Dark Morford @ Dec 22nd 2007 12:56PM
I have all three consoles, and I'm just waiting for Samsung's 3253H to drop to $800 or less before I give them a proper display to use.
Mike @ Dec 22nd 2007 1:01PM
Don't think this poll is a little biased, seeing that it is on an HDtv related website.
Ritch @ Dec 22nd 2007 1:05PM
360 & a Wii on a HDTV
and I would not have said this when I first got the Wii, but now that I have a 50inch plasma, I do wish the Wii could keep handle 1080i,
I still love the system though!
Eric V @ Dec 22nd 2007 1:11PM
My 360 and PS3 are also outputting 1080p. :)
Vidikron (FU) @ Dec 22nd 2007 1:15PM
I have all 3 and all three are connect to an HDTV. The PS3 and 360 set to 1080p... the Wii to 480p :-(
Dave T @ Dec 22nd 2007 1:26PM
Wait, my Wii isn't in HD?!
Wryker @ Dec 22nd 2007 1:27PM
only one vote? that sucks for us that have the Wii, PS3 etc.
boxmyth @ Dec 22nd 2007 1:30PM
PS3 - HDMI - 1080i
Xbox 360 - Component - 1080i
Wii - Component - 480p
I use a Samsung CRT HDTV, or else I would totally use 1080p for my PS3.
Spiza @ Dec 22nd 2007 1:47PM
I'm sure a poll on a site dedicated to HD will give accurate results.
Elliott @ Dec 22nd 2007 4:08PM
Yes, it will. It'll give accurate results of what readers of a blog that covers the topic of HD have their consoles hooked up to.
I detect sarcasm in your comment, but if you were interested in the results of general population, the Nielson survey is already completed and linked for you to enjoy.
GhostDoggy @ Dec 22nd 2007 1:48PM
Both my Xbox 360 and Ps3 are connected to display in HD. As will the standalone Blu-ray I'm getting for Xmas. Silly that the wife can find a Blu-ray within $70 of an HD DVD, but since our collection thus far is 3.4 Blu and 1/4 red it seems worth waiting for the $99 HD DVD player to be a norm.
dgbellak @ Dec 22nd 2007 1:49PM
Another here with both my 360 and Wii connected to my HDTV. The Wii actually doesn't look that bad at 51" with my TV's pseudo HD mode.
anon @ Dec 22nd 2007 1:54PM
news flash, any poll is biased.
PS3 1080p/60 and 1080p/24 to Sony SXRD 120hz
abcd @ Dec 22nd 2007 2:13PM
ps3-xbox360 at 720p
Rishard @ Dec 22nd 2007 2:14PM
Thanx for not thinking abotu those that have both!
Andrew @ Dec 22nd 2007 2:15PM
Wii and 360 here on 46" LCD. The Wii, while obviously made for a lower resolution, doesn't look bad at all.
skafunk @ Dec 22nd 2007 2:19PM
I have my Wii(component) and 360(VGA) hooked up to my 1080p Sammy.
cckrobinson @ Dec 22nd 2007 2:24PM
It would be if I actually had a console. I sold my Dreamcast 3 years ago :)
Ben @ Dec 22nd 2007 2:43PM
I have both a PS3 and a Xbox 360 hooked up to my HDTV.
h0mi @ Dec 22nd 2007 2:53PM
I own both a 360 and ps3 connected to my 720p HDTV and voted for other since you can only vote once.
Mike Jenkins @ Dec 22nd 2007 2:56PM
I have a 360 and a Wii both hooked up to a 720p PT-AX200U projector.
DeadPlasmaCell @ Dec 22nd 2007 2:59PM
MY PSwii60 is all connected to my HDTV.. sadly 480p is the best the Wii can do... so disappointing :(
RebuL @ Dec 22nd 2007 3:02PM
My 360, PS3, and my Wii (in order of importance) are all loving my HDTV.
Wari0 @ Dec 22nd 2007 3:13PM
Xbox 360 connected to 42" Westinghouse 1080p. Wii connected to CRT in the other room.
kcmurphy88 @ Dec 22nd 2007 3:49PM
Kind of a pre-selected voter base on Engadget HD... wonder if the vote would be different on plain old Engadget.
Jerason @ Dec 22nd 2007 4:06PM
I have all three consoles and they couldn't be happier!
HDpurist @ Dec 22nd 2007 4:37PM
The PS3 is the only console that has any use for 1080p. The 360 can use 1080p for the Dashboard and that's it...no use otherwise.
Now the Wii is a complete disaster to begin with. 480p and Dolby Pro-logic surround? WTF? Yes, the Wii is a wonderful console for retro gaming including gamecube titles, but the Wii hardware is just complete garbage and sadly this is what most people want for their new HDTV...
Evan @ Dec 22nd 2007 5:47PM
The 360 and the Wii are hooked up to the HDTV, I selected the 360 one in the poll.
@HDPurist
I wish I could slap you in the face sometimes...
Bill @ Dec 22nd 2007 5:49PM
@ HDPurist
ok what in the world are you talking about. The vast majority of XBox 360 games are in FULL 1080P ... u just have to have an HDMI connection to take advantage of it. Leave your subtle blu bot fanboy BS in the format war blogs where it belongs.
Hike @ Dec 27th 2007 2:36AM
Bill,
No XBox games are in 1080p
most ps3 games aren't either
there are a few ps3 exclusive games that are, like gran turismo will be, but NO Xbox games.
Xbox is the reason that so many games for PS3 arent in HD
and as for me, I have my PS3 hooked up in 1080p and full digital surround sound.
richard @ Dec 22nd 2007 6:20PM
Why does standalone matter so much w/ 6,000,000 PS3s sold worldwide. Stop living in denial people. Many people buy the PS3 instead of the blu-ray standalone because it is the same price as the cheapest blu standalone player. It's like getting a Playstation for free, then add in the fact that its got built in wi-fi, internet browsing, and free online play, it only makes sense to purchase the PS3 over a standalone to watch blu-rays.
Follow this link and read the paragraph under the remote control picture. http://reviews.cnet.com/game-accesso...g=nefdprod.rev CNET uses PS3s to test many of the HDTVs they review.
Smith @ Dec 22nd 2007 9:41PM
PS3 on 1080i, thank you. You are welcome.
Joe Siegler @ Dec 23rd 2007 12:41AM
What about "Hey, I can't afford one, because my house, car, wife, kid, and other real life stuff keep me from being able to afford one"?
mike @ Dec 23rd 2007 2:07AM
im surprised at the results. 360 outsells the ps3 6:1 yet the # of ps3 vs 360 owners on this site seem to be dead even (I was expecting 6:1 in favor of xbox). I guess theres too many blu-ray fans on the site who bought a ps3.
Mike @ Dec 23rd 2007 7:36AM
It's a pro blue ray site...of course a bunch of ps3 kids hang here...not to mention the blueray forums probably telling everyone come here and vote.
Larry @ Dec 27th 2007 3:18PM
@Mike,
The software for 360 doesn't even outsell the PS3 software by that ratio let alone the software. I understand what you mean though. It's amazing how many people here own a PS3. I have a 360, connected to my 1080i RCA 52" RPTV. Sold the Wii after 7 months.
Jamel L Singleton @ Dec 23rd 2007 3:44AM
My Xbox 360, PS3 and Wii are connected to an HDTV.
rip @ Dec 23rd 2007 4:48AM
yes:
PS3 1080p
Wii 480p
Where's the option for multiple consoles???
pintweaks @ Dec 23rd 2007 2:18PM
I just sold my Wii on eBay because it looked like crap on my HDTV. I loved the games, but just couldn't get used to the blurriness. I'm waiting on Nintendo to release a Wii with HDMI, but with how fast they're selling, I don't think they have much incentive.
jake18oly @ Dec 23rd 2007 3:54PM
I have an Xbox 360 hooked to our HDTV. We had a Wii connected as well until we sold it to my in-laws last week.
Welsey @ Dec 23rd 2007 6:02PM
I have all 3 of mine hooked to my HDTV.
