panasonic th-42px60u -- $999 at best buy -- black friday of 2006
i also sit about 10-12 feet away and don't see much perceived benefit to going to 1080p (at least at 42"). 58"-60" would be a bit of a stretch for my room, so if/when i decide it is time to upgrade it will probably be in the 50" range.
i've done a (very) little bit of browsing at the kuro's, but i was not totally impressed with the pdp-5080hd i saw at best buy. i need to check it out somewhere else, but i am just looking right now. i'm not ready to put down $2k plus when my panny still looks great. and for over 2G's i'd like to be getting a 1080p set for that kind of money.
I'm never impressed by any set I see in a store. Don't judge by how they have them setup in the store. The Kuros are AMAZING sets.
I bought me a TH-50PX60U so I know exactly what yours looks like, mine's just slightly bigger. I love my Panny. And I agree, at 50" or below, 1080p is not needed.
