When I talk to other people who don't know a lot, they all seem to still be afraid of burn-in, which simply takes effort to do. If you were afraid of burn-in on your crt, then you can be afraid of burn-in on your plasma. Personally, I love my th-42pz77u.

It would also be interesting to find out what people have in relation to their HD format of choice, since less than a handful of LCDs can even be arguably as nice in picture quality as a plasma.

Spiza

Comments on Plasma Coalition continues to invest in technology

I just bought a Samsung HP-T5044 and like it so far. Most just see plasma as high end panels for rich people that are still susceptible to burn-in. Neither of those misconceptions are true anymore. Plasmas truly produce the best picture of any current technology and work just fine with games, even those with static logos. True, they still have problems with temporary (very temporary) image retention, but it fades nearly instantly once a non-static is put on the screen.

Here's some links everyone may be interested in (warning: PDF)

http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/pio/pe/images/portal/cit_3424/273087528Pioneer%20DTV%20White%20Paper%20-%20FINAL.pdf

http://www.dynamicdigital.ca/documents/Plasma%20Facts%20and%20Myths.pdf

Loban

Comments on Plasma Coalition continues to invest in technology

BTW, both those white papers are slightly out of date, but you'll get the general idea.

Loban

Comments on Plasma Coalition continues to invest in technology

I was fairly anti-plasma until I saw the Kuro, which I now own. Like others here, the poor viewing angle and less than satisfying color of this technology outweighed their best-in-class size/price ratio. By September '07, I was set on an LCD, either 42" or 46" Aquos. However, the motion blur issue and washed out blacks pushed me toward PDP, which I always avoided out of fear of a reported short life span and high price. Then I saw the Hitachi P50S601 at Circuit City and began researching the 50" beauty. In the weeks leading up to Black Friday, the prices mirrored the roller coaster pattern of the Dow Jones, but I was able to pick it up for $1,799.99 less $100.00 CC discount and an additional 10% for my AAA discount; net was $1,529.99. Definitely worth every penny! I am very satisfied and have two recommendations for anyone looking at PDP, or any HDTV for that matter: first, use your AAA coupon (available online and good for discount on total purchase price at Circuit City); second, pass on the CC extended warranty. When you register your product online, you can opt for a less expensive warranty directly from Hitachi (three years, beyond basic 12 mos., parts and labor 100%, no deductible. To those in the market for a receiver, I also picked up the Onkyo TX-SR705; it makes a great companion for your HDTV. Happy 1080p New Year!

Larry B.

Comments on Plasma Coalition continues to invest in technology

the white sheets should be sent out if not plasmas flaws/myths needs to be heard to the public, i respect the ideals of my co workers and many people but when my co workers state that lcd is better i just scratch my head when i hear a customer saying "which is better plasma or lcd?"
insted my co workers should be saying both have advanteges and disadvantges. i know plasma is just better

gus
