Cox adds four new HD channels in Kansas
The deal was done some time ago, but apparently, Cox is still getting around to doling out a few new HD additions to various markets. According to tipster Kevin, the cable provider has just now activated CNN HD, TBS HD, Discovery HD and TLC HD in Kansas, but Science Channel HD and Animal Planet HD were sadly missing from the bunch. Anyone else in the surrounding area also notice the newcomers?[Thanks, Kevin]

I actually said no Science Channel HD yet... not Sci-Fi. ;)
Anybody notice that the guide information has every show on TBS HD as HDTV? Even though the real High-Def programs like The Office are stretched like everything else???? Seriously lame.
And, ANYBODY with NFL HD... on any carrier... is the screen just a white graphic with dates listing upcoming NFL games on NFL Network? They actually show those games, but then it switches right back to the annoying static graphic. I can't tell if COX is doing this, or NFL Network... and WHY!?
Channels in KS on COX in HD:
KTKA HD (ABC)

im very happy being a Cox customer, but a few things irk me. #1 in some areas there's FOX HD. i dont get it where i am. I when to a Cox service center to trade in a digtal box for another DVR box. Across the street one day before i went to the center a neighbor was getting Cox telephone set up. i walked over there to see what was up. In the Cox's worker truck was this new Motorola box. I ask if that's a new DVR box..? The guy says yes it can handle up to 60 hours of HDTV recording. My current box can only do about 20 hours i've been having it for aleast 3-4 years maybe more. When i go to the Cox service center a lady tells me she knows of the box but they dont have any, okay that's fine. But she it DOES NOT record that many hours. Hence i leave. So im thinking okay someone doesnt know their product. its got to be the woman at the center. So i call Cox to get answers and the person i talk to says there no box out yet that can record more then 20 hours of HD. this all happen about 2 weeks ago. On Christmas Day im@my girlfriends family's house exchanging gifts& they have the same box i have in their living room(a HD DVR) but in their son's room he's got a box that he says can do 80 hours of HDTV record time!!!!!
i want that HDTV DVR box from Motorola/Cox. i dont want DirectTV or TIVO. my journey continues.

I can finally watch Discovery in Hi-Def. Although the programing guide lists Discovery HD and Discovery HD Theater both as "DISC HD", so that's kind of annoying. As is Turner's continued insistence that upconverted and stretched SD is the same as HD.

I actually had that in my comment. But, I looked and they changed Discovery Theater to DSCTHD. Surprisingly they noticed... considering other channels change their names and it takes me complaining twenty times, them blaming it on TV Guide over and over again, until I finally go off on them and they actually change things. Like channel 26, Headline News, saying Headdline News. Discovery Civilization DSCCV changing to Discovery Times DSCT... they finally changed that since I blew up on them asking them to get their heads out of the obvious place. There was other stuff I complained about, but I don't remember what. Besides me complaining about them adding the Kansas City FOX HD instead of the local Topeka FOX HD affiliate. The Kansas City channels go out whenever it rains heavily between Kansas City and Topeka... meaning no FOX HD when there's storms or it's snowing heavily, etc. Our FOX didn't even know they had pulled out of the negotiations until the same morning COX started broadcasting the KC FOX HD signal. While I'm happy we have FOX HD... it is annoying relying on the weather. I thought that's why I was supposed to stay with cable??

We've seen the new HD channels listed on our TIVO Series 3 Guide for about 3 weeks now in Orange County, CA. We see the channel listings, but have been receiving no signals. I was informed by Cox (after being transferred 3 times and having to re-explain what I was seeing or rather not seeing each time) that the cable cards used by the TIVO Series 3 did not have enough bandwidth to support the new additional channels and that is why I was not able to see anything on those new channels.
Having read this article I forgot to check the channels after the 12/17 launch. I'll check tonight and see if what they told me about the cable cards was correct or not.
I find it curious that TIVO saw the channels weeks before their launch. I wonder if the traditional Cox HD Boxes showed the same channels ahead of the launch.

Nope, the max time I've seen a channel get listed on customers DVR's are about 2 days ahead of the actual channel getting broadcast. Usually it's only a couple minutes before they actually push the channel through. The four channels launched on the 18th here were put on the guide on the early morning of the 18th... same morning they launched. Between about 6am and 9am is when they rolled them out.
