However, i returned the 360 for a full refund last Monday.
How anyone can have that thing in their lounge room is beyond me, it sounded like the vacuum cleaner was on at full blast. The 360 was so loud during game play that you all most had to shout over the top of it. How you could watch a movie with that chainsaw going in the background is beyond me, even the fans were unacceptably loud.

I eventually put the 360 inside a solid timber TV cabinet to try to muffle the noise, but it was still unacceptably loud and the heat when i opened the doors all most knocked me over.
Sorry, I support HD DVD, but the 360 is dreadfully poor quality and M$ need to address it yesterday. It's a shame, the 360 is a dreadful piece of hardware with brilliant software, and the PS3 is a brilliant piece of hardware with dreadful software.
I replaced the 360 with a wii and the family couldn't be happier, even i am staggered how good that little thing is.

No matter how you spin it, the add-on is definitely being used to watch HD-DVD movies, either connected to an xbox or a HTPC, so these numbers are valid in terms of the format. Not sure what your situation has been with the Xbox360, but I lay mine horizontally on its side ALWAYS. Never had a major problem. I thought it was a brilliant little CD/DVD/HD DVD ROM device for my PC, excellent performance & decent value.

I sold mine a little while back (got a decent price for it too) but if they'd hurry up & chop the price here in the UK like they have just done in the US I might even buy another (especially with the freebie movie deal, nice), I liked having the HD DVD ROM and if I get my 24" PC screen soon I might have to get it again.

I only got rid of it cos I bought one of the HD EP35s (the Euro version of the HD A35).

Several stores have reported not selling out, even at that price :)

This being said, again, despite the 90k(or 100k) units sale in three days at $99, that means that without that very sale HD DVD was standing at 380kish. Pretty much on par where Blu Ray was at the same period (around 360k). lol I think that's a bit exaggerated.. The only game I've played that annoyed me was Oblivion.. and even then the drive was only loud for a little while and even then the sounds of the game drown out any noise there is. As far as watching movies (HD or regular) the console is pretty much silent. I don't know, maybe I'm just used to PC CD/DVD burners and how "loud" they are.. cuz that's about how loud the Xbox 360 is when it's loud. No exaggeration! i am pro xbox, pro HD DV, why would I exaggerate?
Maybe I got a dud machine , I don't know, but I can tell you I have waited a long time to buy a 360 to replace the current xbox. I did my homework and made sure i got the falcon motherboard thinking the problems with the unit were resolved, but that thing screamed like a stuck banshee. My wife and kids kept telling me to turn it off because it was so loud.
As i said, maybe i lucked out and bought a dud, but after waiting 2 years for a 360 I am very disappointed, and I wanted to get the HD drive as well!!

It just means a simple USB connection does the job = no additional heat or power requirments from your PSU.

I also found mine to be very quiet, it never gave me any problems at all.
PowerDVD 7.3 and the drivers Windows found for me were all I needed for smooth and nice HD DVD playback.

I haven't had a single problem with it. It's in a little cubby-hole in my wooden entertainment center, and it's pretty warm in there. But my HD-DVD add-on sits to the left of it, neither of them make much noise, and no RRoD for me (knock on wood, haha). I'm even planning on buying an Elite when I move next August, so I can have another media center hub in my game room and living room. It really was a well-thought-out machine, and it's unfortunately there were quality assurance problems. But M$ is making nice with their warranties, even though it's admittingly a headache having to return it.
