Here's some news that will most certainly make many in the greater Portland metropolitan area very happy,
FiOS has obtianed carriage agreements for TV service and will start offering service almost immediately to Aloha, Beaverton, Cornelius, Dundee, Durham, Hillsboro, King City, McMinnville, Newberg, Tigard, Tualatin and Wilsonville. And, customers in Forest Grove and Sherwood can expect service later this month. This expands the nations largest fiber to the home provider to thirteen states and 410,000 potential subscribers. Having viewed their HD channels first hand, we can tell you that the picture quality is hard to beat, as long as you don't mind waiting around for them to
add capacity for all the new
HD channels they are planning on adding.

I wish they had this in bloomington, IN. I would have signed up yesterday.

If I can get that signal onto I-5 and drive it south 40 or so miles, I would be in business.

I'm getting my FIOS TV & Internet installed on the 26th. I can't wait to say goodbye to comcast!

I negotiated a great rate with Comcast, and the Fios HD channels are almost identical to what Comcast has right now, so I'm going to wait until 2008 to switch over to Fios. I'm really excited they're here now though!

I just caution you all to realize the grass isn't always greener and not to get too excited about FIOS.
I did and in my opion FIOS is the absolute worst broadcast company that I have dealt with without question. I have had FIOS for about 6 months and it just keeps getting worse and worse everyday. I am switching to DishNet next week only so I can get some out of market baseball games, but if not for that my advise is too stick with cable if the packages are fairly close to FIOS.
ALSO VERY IMPORTANT - Do what I did and if you do get FIOS get TV only so you don't have to sign a contract. IF you get internet and phone you have to sign a 12 month contract. Hopefully you will have better luck than I have with FIOS but just in case keep your cable broadband and just sign up for FIOS TV.

I lived at an apartment complex in Newberg for about a year, and our property manager sent us all letters saying that Verizon would be installing "FiOS" lines into all of our places... I came home one day with a hole in my ceiling and a man in my closet with a screwdriver, it was horrifying. Anyway, my point being, they offered service to us for FiOS right after that... I wonder if we were just the guinea pigs?

I live in SE Portland and just checked their website to see if I could get service and it still says no.. but I was thinking about how great it would be leave Comcast.. but they have Comcast Sports Net which shows 90% of the Portland Trail Blazer games, so maybe after the NBA season is over or I turn 21 so I can go to sports bars
