Cox adds five HD channels to Las Vegas lineup
The giving just keeps on spreading, and that's just the way we like it. Shortly after Northern Virginia got hooked up with 11 new high-definition options, it looks like Sin City has been blessed with five of its own. Reportedly, TLC HD, HGTV HD, Food Network HD, Discovery HD and CW HD landed in Cox's Las Vegas, Nevada region, and have been assigned to channels 722, 723, 724, 727 and 734, respectively. According to AVSForum members residing in Vegas, the channels were supposed to go live yesterday, so for those who've had a chance to check it out, did Cox deliver?[Thanks, D2point0]

I can confirm that the channels are live in Vegas. My wife watches a couple of shows on the CW and she can finally record them in HD. I also like that they have the History channel in HD but, that's old news.

Yes, the new channels went live with a HUGE catch. I'm one of the few who watch ONLY the HD channels (minus movie channels). So as a result, I don't pay for extended basic cable. I pay for digital + HD figuring that's really all I want is HD. Well, I used to get Discovery HD Theatre and now I get Discovery Destination in its place. Plus, I don't get most of the newly added HD channels, including Discovery HD Theatre. It appears that Cox pulled a fast one on us long-time HD subscribers. Those new channels pop up a dialog telling me to contact Cox to purchase them. I'm assuming this means they want me to buy extended basic in order to get these few new "extended(?!)" HD stations. To me this is just wrong considering how far behind Cox has always been on HD content. I've patiently waited for the long-promised HD content to show up on Cox and when it does they bend me over to get it. I'm strongly considering switching to Dish as a result. From what I see, when you buy HD on Dish, you get a lot more HD channels (even if some of the HD they provide is only pseudo-HD).

That's messed up. Doesn't Cox claim on their site (cox.com/lasvegas anyway) that the only HD you should have to pay extra for are premium movie channels?

Quick correction - I meant Direct TV, not Dish. *sigh* so annoyed by Cox atm that I'm mis-speaking.

they already added this channels in fairfax, va last week. where's sci-fi HD?

ABOUT TIME! When will they add the other 10 HD channels that DirecTV has and Cox doesn't? I don't care if DirecTV doesn't have the *exact* number of HD channels they advertise, or that they charge extra for them - they still have 10 extra HD channels that I want.
