Good service, good prices, but it is all focused on the masses. I just can't get around the horrible DVR interface design. It's the one thing keeping me from jumping to satellite. There is definitely an upscale home theater market and I believe both companies can do more to cater to it.

Mike Peluso

Comments on USA HD / Sci-Fi HD launching on Dish Network?

I like the DISH DVR quite a bit. I'm in the process of switching from DISH to TWC because DISH can't provide me the distant network affiliates they used to, there ARE no locals for them to provide me, and they aren't yet offering HD network affiliates for Syracuse, the region they ARE shoving my way. I stopped watching Sci Fi when Universal HD picked up Firefly Battlestar and Stargate Atlantis. Having the premeire of Flash Gordon on UHD but not the series is what killed scifi once and for all for me. Although I did Watch Razor. Scifi-HD is the one channel on Directv that I am jealous for. This solves that. Mark one more up for Dish if this is true.

Actually I love the Dish DVR also. Thursday nights I record and watch My name is Earl, Survivor and Smallville. For me, I just have one small dish near the ground. I get all the HD channels and everything else great.

Now, picking up local, i.e. network channels in HD is another story. Dish offers local HDs for most of the top 50 venues in the country, but otherwise you need an OTA (off air antenna) to pick up local HD channels. How big that OTA is and where you need to place it depends entirely on how far you are from the broadcasting towers and has nothing to do with Dish.
