NFL Network's Cowboys vs. Packers matchup set cable records

We had a sneaking suspicion that last Thursday's tilt between the Dallas Cowboys and the Green Bay Packers would draw a crowd, but considering the less-than-stellar proliferation of the NFL Network in America, we definitely didn't see this coming. Reportedly, over 10 million folks tuned in to catch the marquee matchup between two 10-1 squads, which resulted in a 14.6 coverage area rating. To put that in perspective, the amount of viewers glued to the aforementioned matchup outnumbered those watching the second through fourth most-watched cable shows (combined) by 100,000. Furthermore, the November 29th showdown became the 11th most-watched cable show this year, only trailing Disney's High School Musical 2, eight Monday Night Football games and the series finale of The Sopranos. My cable comp doesnt carry it & Im glad. I'd rather not pay an extra $1.50 a month for 1 or 2 good games. I'll just go to the bar & god forbid, socialize. I'm sick of the power that be in sports holding our heartstrings hostage till we empty our pursestings (Yes you BTN)

You do get that eventually, there won't be NFL on network TV, right? The ultimate goal is for the NFL to create AND distribute their own content.

I'm sure that number is a lot higher. I was watching it in a local bar with about 200 other people who don't get the channel. Everyone had the Dallas and Green Bay gear on.

I wonder if this is counting the people who watched the local simulcasts? TWC is the local cable company in the Dallas area, and they don't carry NFL net, so we were forced to watch the game from a local station (in SD no less). I'm sure there are a lot of people who watched it that way in Wisconsin, too...are they sneaking those numbers into this figure?

After watching NBC, CBS, and Fox and their aweful, grainy, macroblocky NFL coverage (on Comcast in Seattle), NFL Network and ESPN are a breath of fresh air. Thank god they pushed less compression in their carriage agreements. My wife even commented on it...
