Who still says there is a format war? All I see is HD-DVD getting pwned by Blu-ray weekly. HD-DVD'ers always talk about their hardware sales, but if they don't compete with disc sales, then there is no format war, only people with useless $99 boxes they bought at Wal-Mart.
"then there is no format war, only people with useless $99 boxes they bought at Wal-Mart."
Yup, and since Wal-Mart doesn't report DVD sales to Nielson, those people who bought their players at Wal-Mart are likely buying their movies there too... Which aren't being counted.
I really wish we could've seen last week's numbers -- being that it was the first with Shrek 3 I believe... Oh well.
ANd to say that HD DVD is dead because of these numbers is ridiculous. If you think that, then you must also think that the PS3 is dead. Assassin's Creed on the 360, for example, outsold the PS3 version 2.1:1. The highest PS3 game on the sales list is 16th, and overall titles were nearly 3:1. Does that mean PS3 is dead? No. I've been saying for awhile - both will probably end up living.
To the fanboys on both sides who feel this Neanderthal impulse to bash the other side and always use these Neilsen reports as an excuse to spout their pathetic vitriol:
There will always be a format war as long as there are big name movie releases on both formats. Want Pirates, Cars, Rat? Blu-ray is what you need. Want Transformers, Bourne, Shrek? HD DVD is what you need.
They'll both be around until the movie studios end it by all going to one side, or all going neutral.
