Pioneer's SyncTV YAOTVS (yet another online TV service)
Pioneer just announced their SyncTV on-line television download service. The ad-supported, subscription-based service costs between $2 to $4 per channel per month or $2 for any show you wish to download outside of your subscription -- there's no mention of streaming capability (though it's not excluded, either). While details are soft, downloaded video is said to offer DVD-like, "home-theater quality" with surround-sound capabilities and in some cases, hi-def resolution. They will be PC and Mac compatible wrapped in a Sony, Philips, Samsung, and Panasonic (note: not Microsoft or Apple) supported "Marlin" DRM wrapper. As such, expect to see portable players, television, and set top boxes from at least one of these manufactures sometime early next year in support of the nascent service. A private test begins today with a public beta set to launch in January. Unfortunately, the channels and shows available over SyncTV were not revealed today so we'll just have to wait to see how this develops.
Update: The SyncTV site is now up with more information and beta pre-registration.

Color me dumb, but "ad-supported, subscription-based service" seems like they are looking for stupid people. Oh wait, this is exactly what every cable television and satellite operator has been doing for year. You pay THEM money and they show YOU ads.
Like a good little cow trotting through the gates of the slaughter house, moo-ve on, there is nothing to see here. -Cow

I wouldn't bet against Sony, Panasonic, and Samsung. These are the heavy hitters in the LCD and Plasma HDTV markets.

Apparently Thomas Ricker didn't read the site carefully. www.synctv.com states, "SyncTV downloads TV shows rather than streams them, which means you can play your favorite shows wherever you want, with or without an Internet connection." There's your mention of streaming video Thomas. How can you say there was no mention of it? En garde.

if you are looking for multi-lingual tv, online tv social community, social tv network, internet tv stations, tv channels, free global internet tv, broadband channels, live webcast, customized tv programmes, After testing various TV software and visiting loads of sites. most of them offer a free trial or preview and then they make you pay to sign up, or are cluttered with ads. I think that is ridiculous... so ive done my research and have found a couple of really decent sites. The first one Id like to draw your attention to is (http://www.viewmy.tv) This site has almost 1300 channels from around the globe and counting. it is free to register and they dont ask for stupid details, just your username and email address. It actually streams live channels so you dont have to download any and they have a pretty easy way of finding the channel you want. You can search through genre, country, region or name of the channel. oh and there are no ads either. Check this one out. With over 1300 channels from hundreds of countries, loads of features like channel rating, user recommendations, live chat, profile pages and much much more.
