New York leads the nation in HD adoption
Go on, you New Yorker you, give yourself a much deserved pat on the back. According to recent findings from The Nielsen Company, NY residents are "leading the nation in adopting high-definition television." Reportedly, some 17.5-percent of households in NYC are pulling in HD content of some kind. Notably, Los Angeles has the highest amount of HD-equipped homes, but only 17.1-percent of 'em are actually putting their equipment to good use and receiving an HD station. Taking home the bronze is Washington, D.C., with 16.8-percent of its domiciles enjoying HD programming. Nationwide, 13.7-percent of dwellings are HD-capable, but only 11.3-percent (that's 12.7 million homes) are actually receiving HD signals in some form or another. Seems like we've got quite a ways to go to hit that 50 million mark by next year.

All of the main TV stations broadcast in HD. You don't need a 'service' to get HD in NYC, unlike LA.

While I agree with these numbers, your part of the article should say NYC not the Empire State which stretches from NYC to the Canadian border. If you counted the entire state which you imply (not the original article) NY wouldn't be in the lead.
Kudos to Wash DC if we could only get all of our news in HD.

NYC FTW!
In the city, tons of people have HD. CableVision is actually good for one thing: helping spread HD faster than a scorching case of herpes.

Too bad we are all using Time warner, which has the worst HD selection of any provider. It's honestly like 15 non-movie channels, most of which are in SD the majority of the time.

~2.7 million households are HD-capable but not receiving HD content, even though HD content is free OTA. It just shows you the poor state of HD knowledge from the average joe. It's like buying a color TV and only watching black and white...

From Time Warner Cable (NYNJ) Website:
Effective December 13, 2007 in Woodside, Queens (ACQ) only: We will launch M HD...History HD...A&E HD...Food HD...Lifetime Movies HD... HGTV...TMC HD...VS HD...and NHL HD....
Why are they only adding HD channels in select areas of Queens? Is it b/c DirecTV is not really an option for many of those living in apartments?
Really, I only care about VS HD since they have been showing some good college football games as of late.
