Don't try this at home, kids. Just like most of us, Mona Shaw has been
frustrated by her TV service provider. After a few rounds of playing "wait for the service truck to show up" which ended in her cable service being cut off, the 75-year old climbed the next rung in the customer service ladder and went to her local
Comcast office. With a hammer. You can read the link for an account of what ensued, but luckily the only thing smote was some office equipment. Her actions resulted in a three-month suspended sentence, a one-year restraining order and a $345 fine. All in all, a pretty expensive way to register her opinion on Comcast: "What a bunch of sub-moronic imbeciles."

I read about this last week. I totally can understand where she was coming from but would never have the guts to actually do it. It sounds like they really treated her like crap when she went to them for answers the first time.

She should have brought Kerosene and really lit a fir under their arses. But, she should also be complaining to the local franchise authority, and become a poster child for the telephone company to get state-wide franchise agreements to ward off this kind of "we don't care" cable attitudes.

The short version:
She walked into the office, and told the receptionist her problem (phone didn't work at all).
The receptionist said she would get someone and immediately answered a call.
Our hero pulled out a hammer and smashed the receptionist's phone, saying, "Do I have your attention now?"
She then went on to say something to the effect of "It sucks not to have a phone, huh?"

Actually, after not being able to get help the first day she was there, it was the next business day that she came back with the hammer. Basically, on the first day, she politely waited for a manager that ended up leaving for the day before anyone said anything to her.
It's the kind of thing that makes me wish I had options for smaller operators. And maybe some actual competition, they have a goverment-sponsored monopoly on their connection type. A new company coming in has to have a totally new link-type in order to be allowed in, that's partly why FIOS is being used. Sadly, the biggest operator of FIOS is Verizon. No thanks.
