Not to be outdone by
Time Warner Cable in
San Antonio, it looks like
Comcast is getting in on the "add HD channels" craze. Well, at least in the Houston market it acquired from TWC this summer. Additions to the lineup include the HD-flavors of: National Geographic, USA, A&E, History Channel, HGTV, Food Network and CNN. With this move, Comcast reaches 30 HD channels in Houston. Sure it's no wave of channels like DirecTV
is experiencing, but kudos to Comcast for making sure its newly-acquired customers didn't feel like they were forgotten about. If they can get some of that
TiVo goodness out to Houston, that would be icing on the cake.

I noticed this last night when flipping through the channels. Happy to say the least. Though how much of this content actually is true HD and not just converted?

'bout time, I sent this tip in Monday! :P Ne who, I'm a TiVo n00b, what is the difference between that and my current DVR??

BFD... DirecTV has just added an entire boatload of HD Stations to their lineup.
Maybe if Comcast spent more time/resources adding HD channels instead of stifling their users' connections they would be a little more current.
I will admit, however, that OptOnline was the internet provider with the fastest sustained download speeds I've ever had. The cable service, however, was a little lackluster.

But no Sci Fi as the BSG Razor premeire is just under a month away? Looks like I will have to wait for the HDDVD the next week then. Well that and comc st in albuquerque to carry CBS-HD before I turn cable back on.
OTA HD! Viva FREE HDTV!

I've had this in Huntsville, Alabama for about two weeks. NFLHD has also been added to my lineup.
CNNHD is really cool. The news looks so much better.
Waiting on a ComcasTiVo...

In Nashville we've had most of those HD channels for a while. No CNN but i never watch that station anyhow. NFLNet is in HD but they moved that channel from 'free' to having to purchase their 'sports package' for $5 more a month. You'd get some other 'useless' sports stations that show useless games and stuff so I am NOT happy they moved it to an additional pay-tier. Comcast needs to continue to increase their HD channels (no USA, Sci-Fi, FX, etc) AND they need to stop nickel/diming their customers! If I could put a dish up I would but the only location would be the front of my house and I won't do that.

We don't feel like we're forgotten here in Houston. After all, in addition to adding a few HD channels, they also doubled the cost of most services! My bill went UP $15 even AFTER I took off 2 sets of movie channels. They certainly remembered to up our rates! Stupid f'ing Comcast...
Gordon Werner @ Oct 25th 2007 7:37PM
Well they aren't here in Seattle.
Sriram @ Oct 25th 2007 8:15PM
I still waiting for these channels over here in Comcast North NJ......
I mean, we are one of the largest systems in the US on Comcast, shouldn't we get first priority on these channels?
Matt @ Oct 26th 2007 5:04PM
Sriram, if you don't like Comcast, then switch to FiOS as soon as Verizon offers it in your town. VZ's expected to light up all of North Jersey by mid next year. I made the switch two weeks ago, and will never look back.
BTW, the rest of the country puts the hate on us when we talk with an air of entitlement.

Yes, there are a handful of HD broadcast in the digital channels. If you bypass the box, you'll find the HD channels free. All you have to do is channel surfing in the digital channel (ATSC) spectrum. I found universal HD and MHD and quickly set it to mu favorites ;)
