The price match is for local deals, but I found what I wanted on the web. took it in and they price matched about 80%. As someone who has not yet decided which way to go, I couldn't agree more. It's a damned **format**! That's ALL! What the hell is with the fanboyism on *either* side?! Jesus! It's almost like saying "HD DVD" is an insult to his mother or something.

I'm going to buy a new TV in the next few months. Either a 46" or 50". I'm leaning towards a Vizio brand. Is 1080p really worth it at that screen size? Right now, I have a 32" Bravia 720p and I think it looks pretty good with HD stuff. I'm willing to spend some money (prefer to be under $2500) but don't want to overspend if not necessary. I have HD satellite and Blu-Ray and will also upgrade my receiver to one with at leat 2 HDMI inputs (probably a Harmon Karden). I'll also take advice on that too if someone wants to offer it up.

For around $2500 I'd go with a Pioneer KURO (model Pioneer PDP-5080HD). It's still not 1080p but it has one of the best pictures out there. On a 50" model unless you are sitting really close there isn't a great need for 1080p. Find a local dealer that stocks pioneer plasmas and go check it out. As of today, Fry's Electronics has the 42" screen for only $1100, and the 50" screen is just $300 more ($1400). Amazing prices, and I'm expecting a further drop in the next month, and during the Black Friday weekend.

Compare these bargain plasma prices to an LCD - where a 52" LCD is at least $3000 (and higher), and while having a higher native resolution (1080p), LCD TVs do not have better overall image quality compared to plasma [lower black levels, smoother picture on fast-moving images, etc]. One caveat however, it does spoil you for buying anything else in the future. I've been looking at buying another LCD or plasma for our bedroom and so I've been looking at just getting something inexpensive since it won't be on all that much.
