What is interesting is that the 42" 768P LCD Vizio I have has better blacks (both perceived and when off) than a lot of the plasma displays. In fact, if one does a comparison with some of the earliest LCD display products from five years ago and what they cost it is natural to see mainstream consumers take a chance any buy an inexpensive flat panel.
Will it compete in picture quality with something costing $1-2K more? No, but then again mainstream consumers are not looking in that market. Keep in mind that flat-panels were at one time considered to be a premium option for that oh so thin condition, but today they easily compete against mainstream rear-projection systems.
