BDA launches new Blu-ray Disc promo site
Guess who has a swanky new website? The Blu-ray Disc Association just launched a revamped site promoting a its high-def format and it sure looks nice. Sure, not everyone will be as excited about this as others but for those looking for an extensive list of hardware and titles, this is the place to go. Just like every other promotional site in the vast space we call the Internet, there is a newsletter, trailers and clips, latest news and of course, a tech support site - really just a link to the manufacturers support sites. HD DVD peeps need not apply but for those that bleed Blu, this is for you.

Great news for consumers everywhere! Just hope they emphasize the superior aspects of blu-ray compared to HD DUD, namely, capacity and bandwidth, more lossless audio availability, etc, etc. Poor HD DUD fanboys... I feel sorry for them actually!
Dave @ Oct 18th 2007 2:58AM
HD DUD? How childish. Look, just because I prefer HD DVD, and you prefer Blu-Gay, doesn't mean we can't act like adults.
NGM @ Oct 18th 2007 4:31AM
Yip, like the masses are going to get all excited by bandwith, bla, bla, bla, that only appeals to BR geeks.
It's all about price for mass adoption..... oh, whats that, Walmart is selling Toshiba HD DVD players for $198,..... bye bye blu.
DeadPlasmaCell @ Oct 18th 2007 12:47AM
Wow.. Creaming yourself over a redesigned website. The Blu-Ray Fanboy is truly an interesting one.
shawnmos @ Oct 18th 2007 12:48AM
Well la-dee-freakin-da!
Dave @ Oct 18th 2007 3:21AM
I know that hddvd fanboys will not like that but they failed. hd dvd failed. the already outdated low spec format will not win.
and "Dave" you dont even have and hd dvd player i am sure, YOU ARE JUST AN ORDINARY SONY HATER!
See latest stats BTW:

What's that, Dave? I can't hear it over the sound of how awesome Transformers is.
Dave @ Oct 18th 2007 4:51AM
Of course you wont hear anything , you dont even have a lossless sound there. What not enough space on the flick? Oh well... LOL

It doesn't matter Nigel, The BD-Fanboys will say "No big deal, Cletus and his Wife/Sister have no need for a $200 HD-DVD Player" Yet they'll change their story up once Walmart starts selling Blu-Ray.
smee @ Oct 18th 2007 6:07AM
Your right there, they'll have to wait a while though, at the rate they are selling stand alone BR players it will be 2015 before they will be price competitive enough to be a volume seller at Walmart.
Shame for them really, cause Cletus would be thinking he can buy all his blu movies from Walmart, & save himself a trip to the adult store.
Dave @ Oct 18th 2007 9:28AM
The sound for that movie has been given 5-stars across the board. Film mixers say it's audibly identical to the master. It's rated higher than most Blu-Ray "lossless" audio tracks.
ROFL!!!! :D

@Dave: "Of course you wont hear anything , you dont even have a lossless sound there. What not enough space on the flick? Oh well... LOL"
Actually, according to people on AVS Forum, there's over 5G of free space on the Transformers disk... Meaning they could have easily fit a TrueHD track on there if they wanted to. Guess what? Doesn't need it - it's still reference-quality audio.
Lossless does not always equal better.

BR gets kicked to the curb in Australia, put that on your new site BDA!

Have they announced, or should i say re re re announced on the site, that they have "won the HD war" again?
zargon @ Oct 18th 2007 7:41AM
Wow, the BR zealots and trolls sure are digging deep from such a miniscule news announcement. In fact, I am not even sure how this can be considered news.
Instead of websites, maybe BDA should concentrate on more important things. Like actually getting profile 1.1 and even better, 2.0, out the door. That or pay more money to buy fake sales like the BOGO deals they had all over the place this past week.
domerdel @ Oct 18th 2007 3:50PM
Dave and Dave:
It's funny, one dave is HD-DVD the other is BD. Could we get some sort of suffix for you two? lol.
Doug @ Oct 18th 2007 11:43AM
Fanboys suck.
FYI, I'm in the Blu camp but damn... I'm getting sick and tired of fanboys (on both sides). The format war isn't ending anytime soon and despite what fanboys say no one single thing is going to win this war. It's a combination of price, studio support, and all the other things each side likes to tout as "the reason HD-DUD/Blu-Gay is dead."
One thing I see all the Blu-Ray fanboys yelling about is superior technology. Doesn't matter. The average consumer has yet to be sold on the better picture and audio, do you think they care about a few extra gigs of space?
Like I said, I am pro Blu-Ray, but I realize the war is going to last at least until the 2008 Holiday season. If HD-DVD wins then so be it, I'll buy an HD-DVD player (at least they will be real cheap by then). But until then I support my side the only way I can: with my wallet.
Walter @ Oct 18th 2007 2:22PM
:) is this because they link back to your site too... Check the "Hitachi Announces World's First Blu-ray Camcorder"
HD-DVD blows, btw. Has anyone used "off the shelf tools" (yes I know the products to use) and was successful in ripping the HD-DVD to Blu-ray? It's a costly adventure, but I have two movies I would like to convert and I am not against purchasing the HD-DVD version legally to create my backup on Blu-ray for my own personal use....but I need one of each drive to do so.
mlody11 @ Oct 18th 2007 2:47PM
Wouldn't it be cheaper just to buy a HD-DVD player since you can get a sub-200 player plus a few movies for free?
Just shows you the mentality of DB fanboys...
Lets spend 500+ just so I can convery HD-DVD to Blue-ray, instead of buying a HD-DVD player... HD-DVD sucks? Well guess what, that conversion you came from a "sucky" HD-DVD... just because its on blue-ray, its better?
I'll make this simple...
You can't tell the diffrence between PQ on Blue-ray and HD-DVD. (can someone please do this survey already...)
You can't tell the diffrence between SQ on Blue-ray and HD-DVD. (many proofs for this...)
HD-DVD is less expensive...
Blue-ray is more DRM friendly... doesn't help the user.
4 points for HD-DVD, 2 points for Blue-ray. This should be a no brainer...

Just drop the "S" from the word "Swanky" from the opening line of this article and it puts the entire blog into perspective.
