"Buy one, get one free" deal on Disney Blu-ray titles

If you're looking to grow your Blu-ray library, there's a "buy one, get one free" deal on many Disney titles going on this week that you should check out. There are several participating retailers, so no need to hunt through flyers, either. Sales leader Best Buy is in on the deal, as is Circuit City. Not into brick and mortar? Try Amazon, then. If your luck is like ours, your local store will be out of one of the titles you want, so check out the forums at the link for to get the lowdown on what's been spotted where. Could this be a glimpse of the holiday promos BDA is planning?

I just returned from Circut City and they have both Blu and HD DVD on sale. BOGO for both formats. I picked up four titles in HD DVD, including Transformers... It is a great deal.

The BDA is putting a hurting on the HD DVD camp with their current promotion. As of yesterday, 45 of the top 50 Hi-Def movies were Blu-ray Discs. You would think that "The Transformers" would be the best seller, but it was number three.

Yes, it's been heavily reported as AVS that in most locations, it works for HD DVD as well, on titles under $30.00 (Which includes Transformers)

Wow this is such old news. GOod job Engadget HD.
Anyway, it's 'Transformers', without 'The' in front of it. And yesterday it hasn't even been out yet so I don't know how its fair to compare blu-ray titles that are already out against pre-orders for one that's not in sales. But the Amazon ranks changed anyway and "Transformers" is ahead now as of the writing of this post.
That's great marketing by the BD camp to counter the 'Transformers' release this week though. I wish Toshiba would come up with some schemes like that too.

It is definitely old news. It can't be compared to current released titles, and it's numbers of launch should be separated for your point to have strength.. but remember, this is a buy one get one free thread.
More about your topic, Transformers holds a steady #4 slot, but overall BD movies are killing red in rank averages.

While this is a great deal on both formats, I'm afraid DVD is the way to go on Kids movies. We have at least 6 dvd players including one in the minivan. The percentage the whole family spends in the mancave is very small.

lol. half, that's funny. nah, I think it's easier for us to keep track of quantities sold rather than price. I think Amazon is raising the initial price of one a couple-few bucks, then taking half off the 2nd

I tried to get Circuit City and Best Buy to honor the deal for HD-DVD when I bought transformers yesterday and they wouldn't. So it doesn't work here.

picked up at my local circuit city yesterday:
transformers HD DVD $15
Sky Captain HD DVD $12
Evan Almighty (marked $34 but rang $29.99, and then half off) $15
Next HD DVD $15
28 Weeks Later blu $15
Crank blu $15
this was done on 2 trips...for a grant total of $87 before tax!
over at AVS people have mentioned that some circuit city employees are rejecting the deal in the computer since it's not one of the advertised blu ray only movies, so YMMV!

Anyone else get the idea that these BOGO deals are less about the format war and more about a 'war' against netflix/blockbuster?
I think both sides are worried that a much larger percentage of HD/BD buyers are happy to just rent flix instead of shelling out the bucks for a library to show off. This, of course, would be the lead in to just downloading content, like tivo is trying to set up with amazon, or future variations like it.
These are actually numbers I'd be interested in (HD-D2 owner myself): What percentage of HD/BD owners combined use rentals as a main source of movies VS the dvd player owners. You don't have to actually measure dvd owners, since that's like 98% of rentals, just find the numbers for us early adopters.

Circuit City Deal is confirmed by lots of pepole... I picked up Transformers and Disturbia for $30 total... WOO HOO!!!!
The HD-DVD BOGO at CCity was NOT announced in the paper, so it was either a silent sale or a glitch in the system... The people at my ccity tried to argue with me that it was wrong until they actually rang it up...
Please be aware that the CCity deal only works on the HD-DVD's marked for $29.99 and $24.99... This was also confirmed while i was there....
Good luck everyone... I'm headed to another CCity after work to pick up Shooter since the one i visited didnt have any more in...

I'm so pleased for the PS3 owners, they can pick up some cheap blu movies and finally have something to do with their console other then use it for a paperweight.

I bought my PS3 primarily as a Blu-ray player. ;-) I'll play games on it at some point, I'm sure.
And I definitely will be ordering some more movies with this deal.
