It appears that a new firmware is in fact coming. With a scheduled release of October 30, 2007 PS3 owners will see firmware 2.0. Sony’s website confirms that a new firmware is coming and with all the buzz going around it seems pretty accurate that these rumors are true.

It has also been rumored that a new firmware will be released that improves DVD upscaling.’ From Spanish gaming site MeriStation published an interview with James Armstrong, who’s CEO of Sony Spain. While chatting, Armstrong revealed that the new 40GB PS3 (hitting stores as you read this) will ship with updated firmware which will improve the PS3’s DVD playback quality.’

So one might want to assume that the new firmware that will ship on the new 40 gigs later this month will contain firmware 2.0 fully loaded with features that support web interactivity and improved DVD playback.
