According to an
NPD report,
Best Buy is the dominant retailer of Blu-ray and HD DVD media. How dominant? So dominant that for once, NPD is not releasing any numbers and is leaving us to guess what "a wide margin" over second and third place retailers
Amazon and
Wal-Mart means. Rounding out the top five were
Circuit City and
Target. A Best Buy spokesman chalked the top honors up to an "audience that loves movies, where they are not casual fans," adding that they "... tend to understand high-def more than the average consumer," which sounds like some people we know. Ahem. That's fine -- we're comfortable being in the
10% minority, right?

Pfft -- no news here. We men who shop there are the most impulsive creatures ever!

Regardless of your format of choice, I think I speak for all us when I say that Best Buy might be one of the greatest stores ever created.

Yeah, no surprise at all. As men, we do love our electronic gadget thingies :)
Something to note, it seems that the Best Buy's in my area (Las Vegas and surrounding areas) are bigger fans of Blu-Ray. They have two Blu-Ray displays at my local store and one HD-DVD display (the Sony Blu Ray display doesnt work and is never on, so i guess u could say it's 1 and 1)... although when buying movies, they always run out of the new-release HD-DVD's, while the Blu-Ray section looks neat and orderly like it's never been touched.
Matter of fact, I have a $5 Reward Zone certificate i'll be using over the weekend! Which i'll be using toward the purchase of yet another HD-DVD to add to my collection! Any suggestions? :)

I vote for "Serenity" or "Hot Fuzz."

I don't believe them, but then again my belief isn't required for anything. :)
That being said, four out of five HD DVD and Blu-ray (I buy both) movies I bought were through someone else and not Bad Buy. Both Amazon and Fry's Electronics have had better pricing. Just yesterday I got a shipment of ten titles from Amazon (no tax and free shipping), and I'm picking up four more from Fry's (2 for $27 and 2 for 1) tomorrow.
I guess there are a lot of people that don't mind paying near or at list pricing for titles.

You could always price match, Best Buy will and does, even a month after you buy the thing - but I guess you're so close-minded you won't actually go in there because all the other bad-boys of the internet told you not to.

From what I hear Wal-Mart only carries 2 or 3 Blu-ray Discs. Target only has a handful of titles currently, but they are redesigning their stores to hold hundreds of BDs.
