Although Toshiba has been quite a player in bringing HD DVD to
more and more laptops, Rock is now boasting that it is the first company to "feature HD DVD as standard" on lappies. Granted, it's only standard on select machines, but at least it's a start. The firm's Pegasus 670 features the obligatory HD DVD reading / DVD writing drive along with a 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo T7700 processor, a 15.4-inch WSXGA panel, up to 4GB of DDR2 RAM, NVIDIA's 512MB GeForce 8600M GT graphics card, WiFi, gigabit Ethernet, and Windows Vista. The higher-end Xtreme 770 is available with most of the same specs, save for the 512MB GeForce 8700M GT, 17-inch WSXGA+ display and a number of additional ports. An HD DVD-equipped Rock laptop can be yours for as low as £999 ($2,037), but if your credit card is up for some pain, you can ratchet that figure way on up.

To be honest I've never heard about this company, but it's definitely a positive thing. More laptops with HD DVD as standard, more people going for the home player/laptop player symbiosis.
Even though this might be a Chinese or whatever company, I'm very impressed with the specs of these machines. I'm actually in the market for the laptop, I might seriously give these guys a look.

Well Toshiba has HD DVD as standard in all of their laptops too now. Asus and Acer have been releasing HD DVD equipped laptops for a while now with quite a few models including their flagship models. HP has been also pushing HD DVD players more in their media laptops because they are cheaper.
Sure these companies have an option of Blu-Ray too, but the large number of their pre-built laptops come with HD DVD. So I'm not sure what you are saying that this one company is making HD DVDs in their laptops standard.
Even Sony is not making Blu-Ray drives in their laptops standard.
So far, the ONLY 1 laptop seller has been offering ready to ship models of laptops with Blu-Ray (that's Sony), the second one was Dell but it still had it as an option (custom built on their site).

So it's a high-end company that I've never heard of before. Big deal. Personally, I believe in choices as long as it makes sense, and I think standardizing on any HD drive for an entire product line is way too soon. Not everyone gives a damn about HD yet, not offering the option of DVD is just going to mean that potential customers will go elsewhere.
