Cox inks deal to get CNN HD and TBS HD
While some of us have been enjoying the MLB postseason in HD on TBS HD, those relying on Cox Communications have been out of luck. Thankfully, all that is changing, as Cox and Turner Networks "announced an agreement today that will allow Cox to offer TBS in HD and CNN HD in Cox markets." Interestingly, an actual go-live date wasn't noted, so for those out there paying for HD from Cox, fire up your set and see if either channel is already available.

I'm a Cox subscriber in New Orleans. They've added TBS HD today (Yay, baseball!) and in the email announcing it, said that "more HD stations will be added next week." I'm assuming CNNHD will be one of them, but I'm holding out hope for SciFi or USA.

Cox in RI added TBS HD a couple of weeks ago. CNN HD showed up today.
jdsundevil @ Oct 3rd 2007 10:25PM
No TBS-hd in phx, az... interesting since the DBACKS are playing tonight
Doc @ Oct 3rd 2007 10:36PM
hell yes i have TBSHD, but sadly no CNNHD as of yet....:(
i wonder what the ratings for cnn are going to be since they are the first to make the jump to HD? I know that i will be watching it since it won't look like shit anymore!

Got TBS HD here in Oklahoma the other day (both Tulsa and OKC markets). No CNN HD yet.
justin @ Oct 3rd 2007 11:40PM
Cox hd does not cost anything.
Kevin @ Oct 4th 2007 12:04AM
I have the same COX cable as RI here in CT, we have also had TBS for a couple weeks and CNN and the History Channel were added today. It seems like we get new channels when DirectTV gets new channels, just not as many obviously.
rharvier @ Oct 4th 2007 12:11AM
Cox San Diego here and TBSHD started today. No CNNHD yet though.
Flealick @ Oct 4th 2007 3:12AM
San Diego got TBS HD on the 1st (at least that's when I first noticed it), just in time for the Padres/Rockies tiebreaker.
ian @ Oct 4th 2007 4:13AM
I will second that to my displeasure there is no CNN or TBS HD in the Phoenix market. It is crazy how deprived the Phx market is in HD and InDemand considering how many Cox customers there are here. I have complained to Cox and all I get is fudged answers. Well at least the Suns will be in HD all season long!!!
Scott Hopkins @ Oct 4th 2007 7:07AM
Interesting. I noticed we had these back on Sunday or Monday in the Omaha, NE market.
KevinO @ Oct 4th 2007 9:43AM
COX HD is free of charge, except you have to rent a box. I'm in Topeka, KS and we haven't gotten CNN HD or TBS HD yet. I've been requesting CNN HD since they announced they'd be going HD.
Noodlez @ Oct 4th 2007 11:19AM
TBSHD in Tulsa as of the 2nd, good old strech-o-vision cept for that boring baseball. No CNNHD yet. :( Wonder if FoxNews will go HD
mongoos150 @ Oct 4th 2007 12:42PM
None of these in Tucson yet.
Seth Amott @ Oct 4th 2007 1:46PM
Neither here in the Wichita, KS market. The last channel added was History HD a few weeks ago, and before that... half a year ago. I have had HD for about a year and only two channels have been added since then. If this doesn't pick up soon, I think its time to take a look at DirecTV. I mean, is it so much to ask? They are out there. My biggest beef has been the Four Discovery HD channels. I mean, Cox used to own part of Discovery Networks. Doesn't somebody have a business card? I wouldn't mind giving up some of my 15MBps internet speed for HD. Thats the one think holding me to Cox, their internet speeds are the top in WIchita.
Tpk @ Oct 4th 2007 2:00PM
Nothing new in Topeka, KS market either. Who cares about CNN HD? The real question to ask is, WHY DOES COX NOT HAVE HDNet? Its the only major carrier in the country that does not offer it.
anthony @ Oct 4th 2007 2:42PM
nothing in orange county, ca. no history, no cnn, no tbs just all the locals, mojo, uni, hd theater. cox is sucking
AnEternalEnigma @ Oct 4th 2007 2:51PM
No TBS-HD or CNN-HD here in Middle Georgia. I sent an e-mail to the local Cox affiliate here regarding TBS-HD and this is what they sent me back:
"Thank you for your interest in our HD programming. At this time, we are not adding TBS-HD to our HD programming and we have no timetable on when it can be expected. Stay tuned in the future weeks to Cox.com
Sincerely,
Middle Georgia Cox Communications"

Anyone who isn't receiving TBS HD - don't worry. You aren't missing much. It's stretch-o, and even programs like The Office which are shot in HD are being stretched. It looks ridiculous and the people in charge at Turner should wise up and realize how retarded their product looks.
Scott @ Oct 7th 2007 1:23PM
no matter how bad it looks, at least we could watch baseball in HD, like we have for the past 3 years. nothing like going backwards.
Ken Land @ Oct 5th 2007 1:43PM
Here in Vegas we got TBS yesterday, just in time for the games. No CNN yet. We got History Channel HD, National Geographic HD, and A&E last week.
MikeinPhx @ Oct 6th 2007 12:15AM
Looks like TBS HD will NOT be available via Cox in Phoenix. Just got this email reply on 10/5 (and our DBacks are in the playoffs! and what is Baseball doing on TBS anyway?!):
Thank you for your recent e-mail to Cox Communications regarding your Digital Cable service.
We appreciate you taking the time to advise us of your interest in the TBS HD channel. We understand that TBS may be advertising high definition (HD) offerings. We do not have any plans at this time, though, to add TBS HD to our line-up in Arizona.
Although this channel is not currently available, we have notified our Programming Department of your interest in seeing it added to our line-up. We value your feedback and strive to offer a variety of channels to meet the needs of our customers. We are especially interested in providing programming specifically requested by customers like you.
We must consider a number of factors, though, when choosing to add or delete programming. These factors include programming costs, program ratings and the effect that the addition or subtraction will have on the remaining line-up.
Please be aware we are planning to add some new HD channels after the first of the year. We are always looking for unique HD programming.
Although the Fox Sports Network Channel is not currently available in High Definition, we have notified our Programming Department of your interest in seeing it added to our line-up.

According to an email chain with Derrick Hall (DBacks president), posted on the link below, Cox will convert the Mojo channel (721) to provide the NLCS games in HD. The same way they did in the regular season for the FSN HD games.

Jim J @ Oct 15th 2007 2:34AM
I have it in the Phoenix market -- Gotta love DirecTV !!!
GunnydPHX @ Oct 16th 2007 8:05AM
Cox Phoenix has dropped TBS-HD from its line-up after the DBacks lost to the Rockies last night. God COX sucks. I am getting ready to switch to DirecTV even though I hate pizza pan satellite dishes. Cox has failed to pick-up 2/3rds of HD content that is available. And HD isn't free the charge $4 for "data port" service and $12 a month for the HD cable box. If you don't have Cox don't get it.
