Some providers can't stop talking about when they'll add new HD channels, while others would rather keep things under wraps 'till the new programming goes live. While both strategies have their advantages, not communicating with your customers is usually not a good idea. It appears now that TWC has quite a few plans for HD expansion in October, as customers in at least one market can expect to see many of the same channels DirecTV has been touting including,
TBS HD,
The History Channel HD,
CNN HD, Lifetime Movies HD, and Food Network HD. While TBS HD is expected to go live in time for the MLB playoffs on October 1st, the rest are expected on October 15th. We can only assume that TWC and Bright House Networks customers all over the country will see these channels around the same time, but without a specific announcement, your guess is as good as ours.

Still no NFL Network, no SciFi-HD, no FX-HD, or even USA-HD... barring a miracle, I'll still be converting to satellite in Nov.
Scoop @ Sep 24th 2007 10:42AM
TBS HD has already been silently rolled out in Austin, TX. However there is no HD content on that channel, so who cares.
Iscariote @ Sep 25th 2007 9:06AM
TBS HD will have MLB playoff games in HD.
tranzparentl @ Sep 24th 2007 10:43AM
Awesome news! Been waiting for another batch of HD channels. Good thing Satellite is keeping Cable companies on their toes.
@Big Sam
As for SciFi, FX and USA, they don't even have a channel to broadcast in HD currently, what is Time Warner supposed to do, make the channel for them? They should all have HD channels sometime in 2008.
TDG01 @ Sep 24th 2007 10:50AM
I'll trade TBS HD, CNN HD, Lifetime Movies HD, and Food Network HD, for the NFL Network.....
The History Channel HD sounds cool....
wrt @ Sep 24th 2007 11:55AM
And I have no doubt that TWC in NYC will find a way not to have the Mets and Yankees playoff games in HD. I don't trust they will have this done for us in the Big Apple considering we have no idea how well the SDV installation is proceeding. Typical crappy service from Time Warner. I want these channels now!
Big Sam @ Sep 24th 2007 12:39PM
@tranzparentl: DTV seems to think those channels will be ready to roll soon. But the real reason I am switching is the complete lack of NFL Network, SD or HD. I don't care whose fault it is, I know I can get it if I switch.
Chris K. @ Sep 25th 2007 2:55AM
CNN HD rolls out on TWC Austin on the 27th. Not sure about the rest of your dates Engadget....
Noodlez @ Sep 25th 2007 3:31AM
Cox in Tulsa and OKC rolled out History Channel HD today. :)
brian @ Sep 25th 2007 1:18PM
If the HD additions don't come close to matching up, I'll be leaving TWC in November also.
todo0714 @ Sep 26th 2007 12:13PM
Raleigh is getting TBS on the 1st, then on the 15th we get Versus/Golf and A&E.

Has anyone had any problems recording HD channels thru TWC? Everytime I record hour long shows on the HD channel it chops up the program into like 5 parts an 18 min part a 2 min part a 22 min part another 2 min part and another 2 min part, that may not add up to an hour but you get my drift. In addition to the segmented video recording it sometimes screws up the audio clipping in and out, so every 5 seconds theres a skip. anyone else have these problems?
Kleinzeit @ Oct 13th 2007 2:03PM
I have exactly this problem every week when I record House. So far, it is the only program that seems to be affected. I'm recording it from KTBC Austin. I don't think it's an HD channel though, so that may not be the issue.
Dante @ Sep 28th 2007 2:26PM
TWC Binghamton has NO plans to add any of the stations or any new ones in the near future. I called and asked today and they said they're always negotiating for new channels, but nothing is in the works anytime soon.
The rep didn't even know that other TW's were adding the stations mentioned above. Me thinks it's time to switch to satellite.
Toxteth @ Sep 28th 2007 3:23PM
Dante: I'm glad someone else is upset over this, and pestering them. I called TWC Binghamton yesterday and they said they would definately NOT be adding TBS-HD by playoffs time, and that their goal is to add these channels by mid-2008. I'm done with them.
Adam @ Sep 30th 2007 6:15PM
wow.....I'm in Binghamton as well......
I'm desperate to find out when/if we're gonna get MSG HD....
We already get YES HD.....but man.....I hate the Nets.....and if I can see them in HD but not the Knicks.....I'm gonna be pissed...
I know NYC, Albany, and other areas have it on TWC....
I called to ask....and a lady told me to expect it by the time the season starts(nov. 1 is the opener.....preseason starts oct. 8)...but I think she was just shutting me up.....
You guys have any idea what the deal is?
Also....anything I should know about TWC in Binghamton?....I'm new to the area...
J Epstein @ Oct 3rd 2007 8:43AM
If Time Warner is adding additional stations here in NYC on October 15th, why does anyone in their offices have any idea what is going on?
Chris in New Hampshire @ Oct 3rd 2007 10:36AM
I live in the very southern edge of New Hampshire (my property goes right to the Massachusetts line). We have Charter, from their Worcester-area office. We don't have TBS-HD and I guess it upsets me with respect to the Boston Red Sox. But in the end, if they (Charter) can't or won't offer TBS-HD in time for the MLB Playoffs, then TBS has lost a huge marketing opportunity. Viewership on TBS will be at an all-time high starting today. I don't know whether to be upset more at Charter for not carrying TBS-HD; TBS-HD for being late to the HD party to begin with; or MLB for signing the Playoff rights to TBS without insisting that TBS have their HD channel up and broadly available by mid-2007. They all share black eyes as far as I'm concerned.
Jondy @ Oct 4th 2007 9:30AM
It's a little frustrating to hear about all these HD channels when Time Warner in Kansas City has yet to add one since A&E HD. It seems like they have no intention of being competitive with Dish or DirecTV. What's even more frustrating is trying to get answers from them. Is there a special department or something to call to get info?! How do they determine which markets get which channels?
Bryan @ Oct 13th 2007 8:50PM
I talked to TWC Austin about this exact same problem. The problem has to do with the KTBC signal the station sends to TWC and it confuses the HD-DVR box. The breaks in the recording are almost always during commercial breaks and sometimes it is nice because it just deletes the commercials. As for the sound, the problem usually goes away if you switch to an SD channel and then back to the HD DVR recording.
Dave Perkins @ Oct 17th 2007 11:43AM
It's October 17th, and TWC in Akron, OH has yet to add any more channels since TBS. So much for the big October 15th roll out!
Michael @ Oct 18th 2007 10:08PM
Does anyone know about CNN HD? I'm looking for the date when it comes to Time Warner in the Charlotte area. We just recently got MHD, TBS HD, A&E HD and Golf HD. However there is a really cool program coming out next week on CNN, Planet in Peril. I suggest everyone watch it, should be pretty good, just wondering if I'll be able to watch it in HD by then. If anyone has any insight, please let me know.
And yes, I agree with people above. Why doesn't the technical people at the Time Warner offices know the dates to these new launches. Everytime I asked about Discovery Channel HD, Animal Planet HD, TLC HD, they thought I was crazy. They kept saying, do you mean Discovery HD Theater? Nicest reps, but it doesn't help if the company won't inform them.
J Epstein @ Oct 20th 2007 9:44AM
Its October 20th. Do you know where Time Warner Cable of NYC HD additions are? I sure dont.
Skip @ Oct 23rd 2007 9:54PM
I completely feel everyone's pain on this issue. I live in Los Angeles and the lack of HD channels on TWC is just ridiculous. Not that it would change my irritation but if they would just let us know the reason for the delay or their plans I probably wouldn't be looking to move to satellite. I emailed them but I am sure they will give me some half-ass generic response like "we are always working to improve our programming".
Dave Perkins @ Oct 24th 2007 8:53AM
Still waiting....but here's the real issue. TWC knows that we will all hold out for more channels because, believe it or not, switching to Directv will cost more money. My wife and I just built a house, and I priced out D*TV. It was going to cost us over $400 just to start up with them. That would be the cost of one HD-DVR, and two regular HD boxes. After that, the cost of their service was the same as TWC's digital cable service, but I would have to tack on $10 for HD channels. In the end, I would have shelled out $400, and then every month would be paying $10 more than I would have with TWC. TWC knows this and can slowly roll out channels when they want because they know that most people won't switch.
Jules @ Oct 27th 2007 8:28AM
I'v been told that TWC at least here in NY will be making several HD additions to be announced on November 2nd. Will believe it when i see it
