Savit Micro's Cinedisk CD26HD media player: 1080i everywhere you go
Chicks and dudes -- the Korean electronics maker Savit Micro wants to make you the talk of the town. How will they do such a thing, you ask? Well, for starters, they're serving up the Cinedisk CD26HD pocket-sized, HD media player that can handle MPEG2, WMV9HD, or DiVX video formats, plays MP3, WMA, and OGG audio, and does AC3 and DTS audio processing. Your precious, friend-making files are stored on a 2.5-inch, 120GB hard drive, and you can hook the miniature-media-center up to your favorite HDTV via its component outs for 1080i playback. The player also comes with a remote control, so you can really show off your movies like a champ, though it won't mix your cocktails or make charming small talk. Available now if you can get to a Korean dealer for 219,900 KRW (around $235).

last year when I was selling HDTVS, I would of killed for this. Its real hard trying to explain hdtv to the average joe and differences when you dont have the right material to display. With one of these, you could load it up with certain scenes (dark, light, fast motion etc etc) and show them at the appropriate times on any display the customer is interested in. It sure would make selling tvs alot easier. If I was still selling, I would most deffenitly buy this.

Probably would be good to have when deciding what TV you want as well.

I've been waiting for something like this to come out. Apple needs to get with the program and allow the iPod to do this. We should be able to stick all our movies, songs, and pictures on a device this size and watch it IN HD on our HDTV.

Yeah, this has been stuck in my craw for a while now, and I've been meaning to cover it in one of my episodes. What we need is an Ipod for your HT, and there's no real reason why we don't have one. While the new Ipod Classic gets a step closer with component out and 480p, we need someone give us 720p or 1080i/p. I'd even take something the size of the iTV if they gave real format support.
Understandably, the roadblocks are:
processing power - Decoding 720p h264 takes some muscle. Doing it, and other formats well takes some finesse.
DRM-not a real roadblock, simply a self-imposed one by the MPA. Ditch DRM, and give us 1080p component out and digital audio. Would do wonders for the regular ipod while you're at it.
It's just frustrating how close the ipod comes. I can't believe there hasn't been more excitement over the component out for 480p on the new ipod...must truly be an HD world now.
