Just hours after getting wind of Sony's
plans to unveil a three-millimeter
OLED, Luminoz is claiming that it has "developed a screen that can reduce the depth of a rear projection TV to about 12-centimeters." Apparently, the newfangled screen "eliminates the need of a large mirror that is necessary in the existing rear projection TVs," and as if the space savings weren't spectacular enough, we can also expect increased contrast ratios. Reportedly, the firm is hoping to inject its screen into 65-inch or larger
rear projection televisions, and if all goes as planned, commercialization should occur sometime next year.

JVC already has the thinnest RPTVs on the market with their ULTRASlim HD-ILA sets, so this company should get in touch with the brand formerly and also known as Victor to see if they are interested in maintaining their lead in the thin RPTV arena

I hope their work pays off. It sounds like a lot of work trying to avoid the inevitable, I mean, the market seems to be pushing for flat panels anyway.

JVC has sets with shallower depth, but reviews have indicated noticeable geometric distortion, too. Maybe this new screen will eliminate this problem.

The real question is, can it help the RPTV viewing angle issue?
