To whom said this was a move a desperation by HD-DVD. One, this is a Amazon sale, two, it includes BR. HD-DVD players are also coming down in price due to the generation 3 players due out starting next month. I actually had no intention to buy a player for either format just yet, just wait it out a bit. But these prices on HD-DVD players were just too hard to pass on.

I think CEDIA and for sure; this holiday season and year end is going to be interesting. This week for sure and I think for the rest of the year and beyond, the 2:1 is long gone. Nevermind that it didn't matter, since HD-DVD had out way more stand alone units and their attach rate of these units was higher. The playing field has been leveled and I think we are going to see around a 1:1 split from this point forth, especially if this Amazon sale has any market indication.

Now I just need one format to win, which isn't going to happen any time soon not matter what the Blu-ray zealots have said or are saying. There's a little saying the Blu-Ray gang keeps forgetting and goes something like this... Money doesn't talk, it screams!!!

Something else to not forget... HD is HD is HD and it doesn't matter how many gigs a platter can hold... Joe 6 pack and the vast majority of the population don't care about what make Blu-Ray more technically advanced over HD-DVD (including myself) what matters is that they can have HD content and it's HD... and remember 1080 is 1080 is 1080 when it hits the display and the TV sure couldn't care less if the data came from Blu-Ray or an HD-DVD player.

And before any Blu-Ray boys think that I'm just liking HD-DVD because it's "cheap" and therefore I would rather not spend the money for "better" should read just a little bit of what we use here in our lives. We have 2 full systems, the front which is the "theater" and the junior version in the back that we use every day of the week.

Front Theater system...
-61" Samsung DLP
-Yamaha RX-V2500 receiver
-Toshiba HD-A2 (when it was $500 bucks to get one just 8 months ago!)
-Radiient 4 port HDMI switch
-SVS Subwoofer (God I love SVS!)
-I won't even go into the 10 speakers (and I'm on the verge of up grading and buying the Klipsch RC-64 center channel speaker)
-Harmony 880 remote


Junior system...
-50" Samsung DLP
-Yamaha HTR-5660 receiver
-Tivo Series 3 (when it cost $800 bucks just to get the stock model) with 750 gig beefed up hard drive (thank God for Weaknees.com!)
-Full surround sound with Polks and BIC's
-And now a new Toshiba HD-A2
