Dish Network launches 6 national HD stations
You know it's a great day when you wake up and find new HD stations. Dish Network subscribers should know how that feels as their HD lineup increased with six new stations; that makes 37 national HD stations for Dish. The day just gets better when four of said stations are national premiers: Discovery HD, TLC HD, Animal Planet HD and The Science Channel HD. The other two stations, MHD and GolfHD aren't new but still a great additions to the largest national high-def lineup. We should mention that Discovery HD is a separate station from Discovery HD Theater and just like the other three new national stations are simulcasts of the SD flavor. Since these launches are in line with Dish Network's CES announcement, we don't see why September 1st shouldn't also be a great day being The History Channel HD's scheduled launch day.

Frigging idiots advertise free HD DVR upgrade and the options is greyed out when you try to sign up! Dish has always been a ghetto brand.

Oh - and I emailed DISH's customer service about the above issue via the contact form on their web site, and their auto-response said "out of office autoreply". What kind of outfit is this? Doesn't inspire confidence and if they treat me like this in the sales process, how well will they execute once they've locked you in?

@ Ryan
Is it that part where it shows the pictures of the TV and DVR boxes?? If that's the case I think you have to click "Add a tv" and then it will let you select the DVR on your HDTV.

I just noticed the change in terminaology used in the DirecTV.com site. The HD info now reads :
Soon, we'll have the capacity to offer 100 HD channels*, that's three times more than cable**
Notice the use of the word "CAPACITY", not exactly saying they will have 100 channels!!!!

Fearless,
100 national HD channels do not exist at this time. DirecTV will add them as they come online. Kudos to DISH for adding more channels.
dslate @ Aug 16th 2007 9:07AM
Charlie is on the record as saying DISH is committed to staying the HD leader. And by continuing to add them I think we can believe him. They will add USA-HD, SCIFI-HD, and any others that are worth having.
D* may have more HD channels eventually as they will probably count one for each NFL and MLB team. ;)

Fearless, Directv has never said they would have 100 channels, they have always said the would have the capacity for 100 channels.
They should be adding 20ish later this year.

Discovery HD is not new.
Walker @ Aug 26th 2007 3:57PM
Discovery HD is new to Dish, remember it is different from Discovery HD Theater.

Dish Network will continue to keep my business! I was lied to by DTV for so long they could offer 1000 HD channels and would tell them to stick it. Lies and deception! DTV

It's a late response but, if you think they never offered 100 channels....... from their site "DIRECTV is committed to bringing you the best in HD programming. So were thrilled to launch 27 new HD channels, including such favorites as CNN HD, A&E HD, The History Channel HD, premiums like HBO HD, Cinemax HD, Showtime HD, Starz HD and many more.
This is just the beginning. By the end of October, DIRECTV will deliver over 70 HD channels. And by the end of the year, you'll get up to 100 of the channels you really want to see in breathtaking HD. That's more than any other cable or satellite provider.
If you want to see what your HDTV can really do, your choice is crystal clear: DIRECTV is the only source for the best HD."
