TiVo HD still having macroblocking issues
TiVo might just have a issue on their hands. The TiVo HD launched late last month and almost immediately, it required a software update (8.1.7b1-01-2-652) to fix pixilation issues caused by Scientific Atlanta CableCARDs. Well, some users are still having the same issue two weeks after the update. TiVo has in fact responded via TiVoCommunity.com and indicated that they are working on a fix. No word on when this update will hit the street but hopefully the 3rd time will do the trick.

Is "Scientific Atlantic" a new company?

I've got this problem with SA cards as well. Its kind of annoying but I really dont worry - TiVo will fix it, just hopefully sooner rather than later.

Tivo has actually released another update - 8.1.7b2-01-2-652. (Note the "b2"). Unfortunately I am still having pixelation, smearing, and sluggish performance. I am one of the unfortunate ones stuck with Scientific Atlanta CableCards. Most of those who have Motorola cards or single M-Cards do not have these problems nearly as much, if at all.

It has nothing to do with the cable cards... its the signal going to the card.

Chris - That's in correct. The issues TiVo is working on are not signal related. You can feed the *same* cable into an original Series3 without any issues - or a cable box, or other digital cable tuner. The problem is specific to the TiVo HD, and it is a software issue - as evidenced by the fixes in b1 and b2 which have improved the situation for many users (but have not yet completely fixed it for all).
Most of the problems have been an interaction with Scientific Atlanta S-Cards - M-Cards and Motorola Cards are not immune, but are less likely to have issues.
