Granted, the majority of you probably haven't forked out just yet for a pricey
HD DVD burner, but just in case you've got one in mind for the future,
Ritek is readying the equally expensive
media you'll have to pick up. According to DigiTimes, Ritek has "secured certification for its blank 2x HD DVD-R" discs, which would enable write speeds double that of its existing media. Additionally, the firm has reportedly obtained certification for blank
BD-R discs as well, and while it's certainly late to that party, we'll take all the competition we can get.

Toshiba is going to blow HD DVD if they don't get a PC burner to market soon.

i agree w/ you 100%, they did their best buy stuffing a lot of their flagship laptops w/ hd dvd playback drives, but a lot of people are looking to get their mass date backup game on.

Wake up! Costco and Best Buy have been selling Toshiba laptops with HD DVD burners for some time now. :-)

blu-ray, hd-dvd, it doesent matter, The media for these are way to expensive atm. I dont mind spending $400 on a burner despite the fact that that will be $50 and way better in just 2 years, but there no way im spending $10+ a disc. I got into DVD burning when they where $2 a disc, and just recently got into DL burning when I managed to pick some up for $1 a disc.

shop4tech has dl for less than a $1. Actually comes in around .80 now if you buy 300 at a time. You can look up their 10% coupon online.
Watch out though. They're matrix dvd's and are kind of sensitive about which burners they work in so I'd just get 25 the first time.
Blu-ray media is coming down fast. We've managed to get 50gb disks at $11 a piece though we were buying 1000 disk lots and you can't always find it at that price so you just get as many as you can when you see a good price. It takes almost 2 hours to burn one disk, but even when we where using dvd-dl we had to have a person constantly swapping disks and he couldn't do any other work during back-up days. This frees up one mans time for almost a week and a half every month so the extra price of the disks is cheaper that hiring an extra man
