I've been using an external eSata 750Gb drive with myDirecTV HR20 HD DVR for months and there was no feewhen that Sata port was enabled. I'm curious to know if both the internal drive on theVIP 622 and an external drive can be used together. With the HR20, it's one or the other.
You can use internal and external with DISH. The external will actually be for what they call archiving. Meaning you can move recordings from internal to external and then play them from there.
