Sauder Woodworking recalls over 400k TV stands
The Consumer Product and Safety Commission has just issued a voluntary recall on two models of Sauder Woodworking television stands that have caused 43 reports of injury. Some 414,000 of the stands, sold at Wal-marts nationwide from January 2005 until May of this year, can collapse if the legs on the lower shelf aren't assembled properly. Consumers should stop using the stand if it begins to move "side-to-side," although we'd probably recommend grabbing a pair of pliers and throwing a little elbow grease into those bolts, just to make sure.

so is some idiot gonna sue because they didn't assemble properly? Is Sauder responsible for training and certification on How to Use an Allen Key?

I had this model. There is absolutely nothing you can do about the wobbly leg, as the bottom wooden portion there (the one that the vcr/dvd looking thing is on), is supposed to attach to both legs to secure them. Unfortunately no matter how many times I took a plier or hammer to the thing, it wouldn't fix.
I never trusted the thing, but at the time only had an old 27". When I got my Vizio 42", I put it out for garbage collection and got a new stand from Target.

well frig. i have one of these at home. we had our 50 inch plasma on it for a while. it seemed ok to me. ill definitely check it before i put it back on there. seriously though....how can you recall something for fear of someone not following directions??? which brings another question....why the hell are people so friggin stupid?

Hmm, I have a 190lb 34" Sony CRT on that thing. I haven't noticed any problems, but I'd better check my handiwork when I get home.
