TiVo HD launches

Ah, right on time the
TiVo HD launches, and with all the expected features and highlights. Users can expect:
- HDMI / component out up to 1080i
- Dual frontal CableCARD slots (plus M-Card compatibility! slots are behind the gray plastic bar), single ATSC tuner, analog NTSC, etc. (Same deal as Series3 though, only two tuners can record at the same time.)
- No frontal display, Glo remote, or THX cert, still no support for multi-room viewing, TiVoToGo, and TiVoToComeBack
- $300 price tag

Um, why does the article say that there is only a single ATSC tuner when the TiVo HD has 2 ATSC tuners?

Ah, never you say :-(. Damn, back to series 1 (which can't be bought officially any more in the UK anyway).
Sadly HD PVR in the UK means Mr Murdoch's piece of crap.

This might be a dumb question but why would I buy this if I could score the Comcast Tivo box for merely a rental price?

Better hardware. OTA tuners. The need to pay TiVo money each month?
OK, maybe not the last one. TiVo's insistence on the fee-based business model will keep them a tiny player forever. But then, TiVo's engineering has had about 70 IQ points on TiVo management for a long time now.

Sure, I would love to buy a superior piece of hardware in the Tivo, but I'm not even gonna spend $300 with their ridiculous monthly fee charges. I didn't even realize they wanted $16.95 a month to give me guide information. Shouldn't this cost about $3.95 to be competitive with cable? I think i get the Scientific Atlantic HD box for $4.95 a month and no hardware charge.

MegaZone, yep, saw your posting - just looking for additional information since it wasn't mentioned on Tivo site or Q&A article with Tivo VP...guess i'll check out AVS as well.

I cannot and will never spend more than $4.95/month for Tivo service. The subscription fees are too much in addition to a regular cable subscirption. TWC makes renting the SA8300Hd so cheap that Tivo just isn't worth the cost of hardware and monthly fees.

Everyone talks about how cheap and great the DVR service from the cable company is but I don't see it here in Phoenix. We have Cox and we pay $18/month for our DVR and $5/month for "Cox Digital Video Recorder Service". AND, the SA8300HD is a big piece of junk. The eSata port is nice for adding storage but mine constantly loses the connection and I have to hard-reset the cable box to get it to recognize the external drive. I am drooling over the Tivo HD box and will be purchasing one in the near future. Please give us the multi room viewing tivo!
