Vizio releasing 52-inch 1080p LCD for $2,200 next month?
We know that many consumers like their flat panels big and cheap even at the expense of quality. No doubt then, Vizio's new "full-HD" 52-inch LCD rumored to sell at Costco next month will be a hit. The $2,200 sets are even said to carry an LG.Philips panel according to DigiTimes' Taiwanese supply chain sources. Promising, but will they bring LED backlighting, 120Hz tech, and 1080p24 HDMI input? Doubtful, but the money you save should keep the fridge swollen with Bud into the foreseeable future.

It's not just a rumor. Costco even sent out a coupon for this set a few weeks back:

The 47" Philips 1080p, poor black levels though it has, is around about $2,000 most places, and the lower end LG 47LC7D is $2,200 so I don't see this as quite the price drop as other Vizio's.
I wouldn't be surprised is Sharp and Samsung (alright, maybe not the 5266, is within $500 of it by year's end.
If it drives the market down, I'll be more than happy.

The 50" Vizio plasma is $1300 and will probably be around $1000 by Christmas so I don't think this is such a great deal.
Will it retail at 2200 but have a $400 off coupon soon?

Yeah, but the 50" plasma is 720p, while the newer 52" LCD is 1080p, twice as many pixels [2 million vs 960,000]. The price obviously reflects the difference in image specs.
I mean, regardless of their quality, this is significant that a 50-inch 1080p LCD is even available for less than $3000!
18 months ago when I purchased a Sharp Aquos LCD, the lowest I found for a 46-inch model were for around $4500 afer discounts [and Sony and Samsung didn't even make a 46-inch or larger set in 2005].
At least Vizio's LCD models look somewhat better than their plasma line [more noisy]. And, like their latest plasmas, hopefully they will include the Faroudja 1080i-deinterlacing chip in this 1080p LCD, as it should pass the 1080i tests in reviews [UNLIKE Samsung, Sony and other LCD makers!]. Sharp and JVC have the best LCDs.
For myself, I'm looking at the upcoming (Fall) JVC 10-bit panels, in 42" or 47" 1080p LCD sets (the 888 series), which will include superior 120hz processing [with a better system than even Sharp's chip], in combination with their incredible GENESSA chip [that provides high quality for both standard and high definition signals].
JVC also makes an excellent quality 788 series 1080p (releasing in August), and the cheaper 688 series which is available now I believe.

I have 3 Vizios (42 LCD and 2 20 LCD and my Girl friend just bought one (42 lcd). I also have a 50" SONYHD LCD I would trade for a Vizio in a minute. I think they are just as good as the more expensive sets. Oh and what the hell is wrong with Budweiser elitist? Why don't you take your Smirnoff Ice swilling rearend over to Tweeter and buy a $5000 plasma to put in your dual use loft. Although I'm sure it wont fit in your VW. Maybe you can borrow my truck.

O also own a 42LCD from Vizio. While the original unit had a video card problem that reared its ugly head a couple of times, Vizio did me right and sent a company into my home and replace the unit with a new one and did so on their dime.
We all know Sony hates the 'Vizios of the world' as they mentioned as much a few months back. Why someone would offer a negative on these is beyond me. I guess to them if you cannot afford $3K for a 42" LCD then you are small people. lol

Well, for us non-videophiles on a limited budget and an obviously less discernable eye, 4x HDMI Inputs and compatible input formats of - 1080p, 1080i HD, 720p HD, 480p DVD, 480i standard TV - will be just fine.

Technology is changing so rapidly that if you keep waiting for the next best thing to buy, you'll never buy. Better to jump in and enjoy the value Vizio offers.

After a month of 'gross' HDTV shopping, and the games the mail-order folks play, I went to Costco to buy a panasonic plasma 50 inch HDTV. In the store was a 52 inch Vizio LCD HDTV.... the picture was so outstanding (sharper than sony, better color than Samsung and fast....no blurrimng or pixelation-thingy. It so so superior to every other TV that I changed tacts and bought it. 2000.00 I get 90 days to try it out. If I don't like it I bring it back.... I get a 2 year warranty. On the Vizio website, I can get an additional 5 year warrantgy for 369... which at that low cost tells me the company believes their sets will hold up. I have no preferences to sell anyone, I just saw the best picture I have seen so I bought it.

saw it a Costco yesterday, and it looks great. Actually better than the Sharp Aqueos next to it, which was several hundred more
