Verizon begins rollout of FiOS Interactive Media Guide
Remember that Interactive Media Guide that Verizon was promising other markets this summer? Even if not, FiOS subscribers located in Indiana, Rhode Island, parts of New Jersey and beyond will soon get acquainted with Verizon's new method of searching for and finding content. Right on schedule, the firm is rolling out the guide to an undisclosed amount of its FiOS markets, and hopes to "erase the lines between TV, internet, and personal media." Best of all, users won't even have to lift a finger in order to experience the upgrade, and it's slated to be delivered via a network download at no additional cost. So, for those fortunate enough to be included in the first wave of updates, give us some impressions, will ya?

I live in RI and I am rather upset I can't even get the FiOS since it is only available of the western potion of the state. I mean seriously It doesn't take that much work to fiber my state

Didn't Cox already wire up RI for fiber? I'm under the impression they have really fast pipes that are just throttled back - if that's the case, I can understand why Verizon isn't in a rush to compete.
Second, pretty funny to hear they've run fiber in the western part of the state - there's not a whole lot out there

Question concerning FIOS...
Any news about if or when FIOS plans on adding any NEW HD channels?
I have heard a lot of news about DirecTV, Comcast, etc. adding new HD channels but very little about FIOS.
I understand they have a small install base as they are rolling it out slowly but I upgraded from Comcast to FIOS a few months ago and I haven't heard any new news pertaining to what else FIOS has planned in the future.

Interesting. I live in Fort Wayne, IN and this interactive menu/guide has been available to me for the last month. BTW, it's very cool.

Now if they can just figure out how to upgrade the paltry 160GB HD DVR hard drive, it might be usuable.

I received the upgrade the other day, and after playing with it for a few days I find it to be acceptable. It is certainly prettier that the previous interface, but there are several cases where one is required to arrow and click more than previously. Of particular note is the ability to customize the jump forward/backward time intervals (nice). Also, they moved closed captions to a menu item, rather than that silly: turn the box off, hold a button, turn the box on, change setting and turn off/on again. It would be nice if I could find a single button to toggle CC, but not yet.
Overall, I like the new interface.

The new guide couldn't possibly suck any worse. It is so horrible. Too cluttered, too many colors, and that stupid magnifier thing in the middle drives me nuts. It takes many more clicks than before to do simple things. I used to be able to be looking at the guide and then hit a channel number to see what is on the guide on that channel, no more is that possible. The guide always defaults to channel 7. When I use favorites I always get the full guide instead of the half guide (which i prefer). Most importantly, it just hurts my eyes to look at it. What is with all the colors? Simpler is better, they should have left it alone.
